🌿 Thank You from The Battery Project 🌿

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our recent work party - it was certainly a wild one! 🌬️ With strong winds and bursts of heavy hail, it wasn’t the easiest morning, but the positivity and teamwork more than made up for it.

It was fantastic to have the Bowmore Community Association joining forces with us, helping not only with ongoing maintenance but also supporting future plans for the site.

Despite the weather, we achieved so much:
🌱 Raised beds and borders were weeded
🌳 Oak and apple trees were carefully watered
🪑 The seats were safely taken away (almost blown away!) and are now being sanded and varnished by Angus, ready for the summer

Thank you again to everyone who braved the elements and gave their time, it truly makes a difference to The Battery and the wider community.

Neil Baker gave me (Mary-Ann) a lesson in horticulture on Tuesday at the Battery, when we organised and planted plants that arrived in December. We are creating a perennial sensory garden, which will be low maintenance, full of colour, scents and wildlife for much of the year for all to enjoy. This will also increase biodiversity and help our bees.

We will be organizing another work party later in February before everything springs to life.

Many thanks Neil.

Dispite the rainy weather and everyone being so busy with the run up to Christmas, 12 and a half volunteers came to start the clearing and tidying at The Battery last Saturday. Including some very welcome new volunteers from the community.

A big thank you to the cleaning staff oh Islay High School, who have done a great job with fencing a new section of orchard for the chickens.

Thank you to everyone, it was a really productive morning and now we have started it will be easier to manage with so many willing hands.

Our next work party will be in February 2026.
