What a miserable day it’s been, but days like this remind us how important it is to spread a little kindness.

Today we delivered sausage, mash and beans to The Brick. With so many people facing tough times, we all need to do what we can to support each other. Sometimes a simple hot meal can bring comfort and put a smile on someone’s face.

Together, small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

The BBC article highlights the importance of healthier eating and making better food choices. At Sushma’s Community Cookery School CIC, we help make this easier by teaching people how to cook simple, healthy meals from scratch.

Our sessions focus on practical cooking skills, meal planning, reducing food waste, and making the most of everyday ingredients. Cooking at home can save money, improve health, and give people confidence in the kitchen.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive – it starts with learning a few simple skills and making small changes that last.

Public Health Wales said it must become easier for people to make healthier eating choices.

Today I was at The Hub Hugs4Free CIC in at the Town Hall, where we held a fantastic cookery demonstration session focusing on foods that are often wasted and can be harmful to the environment when sent to landfill, where they produce greenhouse gases.

We worked with potatoes, eggs, and bananas, creating:

🍌 Banana bread made with mayonnaise
🥔 Bombay potato curry (both dry and saucy versions) using tinned potatoes as a great cupboard staple
🥚 Egg curry served with chapati

The session was amazing, and everyone was so engaged and interested. Many participants have already asked for more classes, which is wonderful to hear!

Today’s session was funded by and delivered in collaboration with The Hub.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a success. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Love this! Our very first PR feature in Wigan Today. 💚

We are so proud to be making a difference in our communities through food education and sustainability.

A huge thank you to The Brick for funding these cookery classes and helping us inspire people to rethink food, reduce food waste, and make the most of every ingredient.

Together, we can save money, reduce waste, and help protect our environment, one meal at a time. ♻️🍽️

Let's stop wasting food and start rethinking food!

A cookery workshop held with The Brick looked at creating tasty meals while preventing food waste.
