Boldon Blossoms WI

On Tuesday night, 8 of the Book & Banter group met at The Storybook, Boldon. And being close to November 5th 🎇🎆, it seemed we were all fizzing and sparking over our latest read, ‘The Woman on the Ledge’ by Ruth Mancini.

It was a ‘marmite‘ book with strong views either loving it or not! But all of us with once exception made it to the end!

Not many liked the main character and the content elicited comments such as “can they chuck anything more into the plot?”, “ It was a bit over the top”, ” thank God it’s over” and “I can’t read anymore of hers!!!!”

So moving to our Christmas read for December 🎄. The group decided on ‘Small Things Like These’ by Claire Keegan. It was Waterstones book of the month in November 2022 and was also shortlisted for the Booker prize. It also won the Orwell prize for political fiction in 2022. 🏆

For January we agreed on Jeffrey Archer’s Kane and Abel. Jen suggested we go alphabetically by author month by month so our members need to get thinking of an author beginning with B for February 😉

An enjoyable gathering with a very lively and wide ranging topics discussed. Til the next time, happy reading! 📚

A lovely lunch today for 7 of our Blossoms at Sambuca Boldon 🍝

They all enjoyed choosing from the specials menu, which offered plenty of choice and was great value for money.💴

Delicious food, and most importantly, great company!
Lots of chatting, laughter and catching up made for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon 💕

Good food, great friends and plenty of laughter- what more could you ask for? 🥰

Our November 📚🌺🥾☕️🍂🧵

'It was November- the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines.
Anne roamed through the pineland alleys in the park and, as she said, let that great sweeping wind blow the fogs out of her soul'
L.M. Montgomery

What a busy November we have for our members here at Boldon Blossoms WI 🌸

November comes, and November goes. With the last red berries and the first white snows.
‘Hello November, nice to see you again.
Take your sweet time and stay a while’

(some of us aren't quite ready to go full on into Ch***t**s mode just yet 😉)

🌸🍁Our October 🍂🌸

Another month done at Boldon Blossoms WI, and what a month it’s been!

October saw us celebrate our 5th birthday with (of course) cake at our main meeting 🎂, we learned how colour works to our advantage 🎨 , took Autumnal walks🍁🍄, our w**e club tasted autumnal w**e 🍷, we created beautiful cards ready for Christmas 🎄, cuppas, catch ups, an Italian meal 🍝 at Sheepfolds in Sunderland and restarted our collection for the local foodbank.

Friendship, fun, laughter and lots of lovely memories along the way 💕

October you were amazing , November- we’re more than ready for you 🎇☺️

Banqueting Blossoms 🍝🍷🌸

A fabulous evening at Vito's Osteria, with eight of our Banqueting Blossoms.

The restaurant is situated in a converted barn at the Sheepfolds Stables in Sunderland. It is a lovely setting & has a friendly atmosphere.

A good selection of authentic Italian dishes were available together with a varied w**e list. Among the dishes we tried were lasagne, ravioli, belly pork, chicken & spaghetti with prawns. All well presented & flavoursome.

Lots of good conversation & more than a few laughs. Looking forward to the next outing 😋

Boldon Blossoms WI will once again be taking part in the Remembrance Parade and laying a wreath on behalf of our members, in honour of all those who gave so much.

It would be lovely to see some of you there as we come together to pay our respects and remember 🙏🏻

Join us in East Boldon on Sunday 8th November as we come together to remember and honour those who gave so much for our freedom.

✂️ Crafty Blossoms 🧶

Our Crafty Blossoms are up and running! Nine of our members attended the first meeting on Monday and had great fun creating easy Christmas cards 🎄

Packs of homemade Christmas cards were available to buy to help with funding craft supplies. 💰

Pre-prepared craft packs to make the cards at home were also bought 🎨 - great to see the craft bug is catching!

If any members were unable to attend but would like a craft pack, there will be some available at next WI meeting on Nov 12th 🥳

Our next Crafty Blossoms meeting is Monday 16th November where we will be doing "paper piecing"- hand sewing fabric around paper hexagons to make a coaster/ placemat/ cushion cover/ quilt. We will start small but there's no stopping us now we all have the craft bug 😉🧵 🪡

Thank you everyone who joined in at our first session . We’d love to see a few more members next time?
