Our Day for Bognor Regis

Armed Forces Day, and previous to this Veterans’ Day, was set up by the Government to recognise the importance and contribution made by ex-Service and service personnel. It is a totally different event to Remembrance Day, which is a commemoration of those who have died in service to their country.

The focus of Armed Forces Day is on celebrating both the past and the continuing contributions of our Armed Forces and Veterans. The key messages are: Recognition of the contribution of Armed Forces and Veterans to the service of their country and their wider role in international peace and security; the range of skills and expertise that they can transfer to civilian life; the range of support services offered to Service and ex-Service personnel, from all sectors; the role of volunteers, both as Reservists and also as leaders of the various cadet organisations.

Since 2010 an organising committee including the RAFA, the Royal British Legion (RBL) and Bognor Regis Town Council have been responsible for running the Bognor Regis Armed Forces Day celebration. Other ex-service associations are also involved, as are local cadet groups. Planning for the event is undertaken by this group and Bognor Regis Town Council takes responsibility for H & S, the Management Plan and the Risk Assessment for the event.
