Formed in 2022, the Slate Quartet performs repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music, with a particular interest in conceptually curated programmes. They are committed to championing lesser-known and contemporary works, regularly featuring composers from diverse backgrounds and underperformed repertoire.
Collaboration is central to the Quartet's ethos, and they frequently work with artists across disciplines to engage a broad range of audiences. They have performed at venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Petworth Festival, and Leicester Cathedral, and undertook a residency at the Ferrandou Atelier in the South of France. More recently, they attended the inaugural Oxford Chamber Music Festival, receiving coaching from members of Quatuor Ébène, and recorded their debut EP, Brett Dean's Eclipse (String Quartet No. 1), for Luminate Records.
They receive regular mentoring from Jon Thorne (Oculi Ensemble) and have received coaching from John Myerscough and Alex Redington (Doric Quartet through Chamber Studio, Isabel Charisius (Berg Quartet) and the Castalian Quartet.
