MEIGLE COMMUNITY TRUST and PRIDE IN MEIGLE ANNUAL 2026 STATEMENT FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION
Meigle Community Trust the organisation owning Meigle Community Garden is mostly dormant in physical activity and new projects.
However, working closely with Pride in Meigle 2015 and Friends of Meigle Cemeteries a lot has been achieved around the village in the last year.
The volunteers maintain Meigle Community Garden on behalf of Meigle Community Trust completing almost daily litter picks in and around garden to keep it tidy.
We have successfully planted a permanent, naturally rooted Christmas tree with the support of PKC Greenspace, this avoids using a cut Christmas tree each year which is better for the environment and reduces our carbon footprint in addition to providing a year-round feature at the edge of the garden.
PIM2015 also undertook repairs to the drystone walling at the rear of the garden, this damage was apparently caused by vandals.
Additional gravel was purchased and spread in & around the garden to top up and fill in some bare patches.
PIM 2015 also undertook maintenance of the all-weather footpath which we and PKC Greenspace created joining Glenluie Green to Victory Park.
In addition to this we help to keep our village tidy, litter picking, repainting benches etc etc.
PIM2015 recently undertook a tidy up of the carpark and borders around the public car park outside Kinloch Arms Hotel.
Pride in Meigle 2015, with the help of the PKC Greenspace team planted thousands of bulbs in Meigle Community Garden, Meigle New Cemetery and Meigle Historic Cemetery along with tidying up and maintenance in both.
Using some re-purposed plants and bulbs, planting has also been undertaken on the raised wall area along the Dundee Road leading from Strathmore place to Kinloch Place steps with the assistance and support of local residents providing some year-round colour in the centre of the village.
We have acquired netting to re-fence Meigle New Cemetery perimeter in order to restrict access by rabbits and we have also negotiated tree pruning by PKC in the original cemetery.
We have established a good relationship with Bruce Farms who have periodically been cutting the grass at Cox’s Corner along with their roadside work to keep this entrance to our village welcoming and tidy.
PIM2015 attended the Meigle and Ardler Community Development Trust Community Open Day Event to showcase Meigle Community Trust and the work undertaken by PIM2015.
MCT is concern that an individual, has been seen by members of the public on occasion indiscriminately distributing copious quantities of bird seed in and around the Community Garden. Doing this despite a request not to do so being clearly displayed on our notice board. as it encourages crows and vermin into the garden and causes w**d growth.
Concerns over this issue have been recorded in previous Community Council minutes. There have also been several reports of rats witnessed by local residents around the square since this anti-social behaviour began.
