It's time to get sewing and baking for our November competitions! We have two lovely challenges this month, and we'd love to encourage as many members as possible to take part.

❤️ A Sewn Mastectomy Heart

This month's craft competition is a particularly meaningful one.

Mastectomy hearts are specially shaped, soft fabric cushions designed to provide comfort and support to women recovering from breast surgery, including mastectomies. The heart fits gently under the arm, helping to cushion the sensitive area, relieve pressure and make resting or travelling more comfortable during recovery.

They're a small handmade gift that can make a real difference to someone going through a difficult time.

🍪 Two Ginger Shortbread Biscuits

For our baking competition, we'd love to see your best ginger shortbread! Whether you have a tried-and-tested family recipe or fancy trying something new, it's time to get baking.

Please note that our monthly competitions are open to Newtyle SWI members only. Visitors are, of course, very welcome to join us for the evening's activities.

As always, it's the taking part that counts, so whether you're an experienced baker, a keen sewer or trying something for the first time, we'd love to see your entries!

Join us on 12th November for A Natural Christmas, as we embrace the simple pleasures of a more natural, handmade Christmas. 🌲

We'll be sharing ideas and inspiration for bringing a little of the outdoors into our festive celebrations, with a focus on natural decorations, thoughtful traditions and beautifully wrapped gifts.

There will be plenty of opportunities to get creative too, with four different Christmas craft activities to try, including ideas for decorating, gift wrapping and table setting using natural materials.

Whether you love making your own Christmas decorations or are simply looking for some fresh festive inspiration, we'd love you to join us!

We had a lovely October meeting, with Nancy Rattray, a Cancer Support Specialist at , as our guest speaker.

Nancy shared the story behind the Maggie’s Centres and the wonderful work they do to support people affected by cancer, along with their families and friends. Some of our members also shared their own experiences of how Maggie’s has helped them in so many different ways.

One message that really stayed with us was that you don’t need an appointment – you just have to walk through the door, and someone will be there to put the kettle on.

It was a fascinating and moving talk, and we were delighted to welcome Nancy. As she lives here in Newtyle, we're hoping she might join us as a visitor at one of our future meetings!

Following the talk, we enjoyed a little crafting, decorating bells in memory of loved ones to hang on our Christmas trees. A lovely way to remember those who are no longer with us and keep them close during the festive season. 🔔

We were also delighted to raise £90 for Maggie’s through our raffle and tea money, as well as collecting a generous number of donations for their charity pop-up boutique in Broughty Ferry this November.

A big thank you to Nancy for joining us and to all our members for their generosity and support.

Five of us from Newtyle SWI headed to Forfar on Saturday for a lovely Angus Federation event where Linda Retson showed us how to make beautiful fabric flowers.

We’re pleased to report that we all managed to create one! 🌸 There may have been a little concentration involved, but it was fun trying something new. It was also great to meet members from SWI groups across Angus.

Thanks to Linda for sharing her skills with us and to Angus Federation for another enjoyable H&H event. 💙

We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Rona Nicolson, a former President and Vice President of Angus Federation and a much-loved member of the Rural.

Many of our members will remember Rona joining us for Newtyle SWI’s 105th birthday celebrations at the Angus Hotel - a lovely occasion and a happy memory to look back on.

Rona gave so much to the Federation over the years and will be greatly missed by many.

Today, as family and friends gather to say goodbye, our thoughts are very much with Rona’s family and all those who knew her. 💙
