Spotlight on FCWA's Safe Haven team: The Safe at Home project

Funded by Lancashire County CouncilSafe at Home provides specialist domestic abuse support to children and young people between the ages of 5 and 18 living in Fylde and Wyre.

We work with children and young people in refuge and within the community using a trauma-informed approach.

A key element of the support involves communication with parent/safe carer and liaising with other services involved with the family.

âš½The World Cup brings people together - and it should be a time of celebration for everyone.

But major sporting events can see a rise in domestic abuse 📈

We're supporting the UK Government's mission to halve violence against women and girls in a decade.

The ENOUGH campaign helps everyone recognise abuse for what it is - whoever's playing, whatever the result.

Good luck to England this evening as they play their match in the World Cup against Croatia.

Win or lose, there is no excuse for abuse.

⚠ Being drunk or your team’s performance is NOT a defence
âš  Abuse includes violence, threats, and controlling behaviour

The World Cup doesn’t cause domestic abuse. Abusers do.

Social Media Ban for Under 16s to be introduced next year

Keir Starmer has announced today that the UK government will introduce a social media ban for under 16s, expected to cover Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X. In his statement about the proposed ban, the Prime Minister said

'social media is making children unhappy, it is making it easier for bullies to harrass and abuse them, and it could even be harming their mental health'

Bereaved families of children who have died by su***de; from murders where social media was a significant factor; or whilst trying a dangerous internet challenge have campaigned to bring about this change.

FCWA recognises the dangers of social media and the importance of specialist support for children and young people who have been affected by online grooming and sexual exploitation. FCWA Safe Haven team delivers the WIRED project across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre for children and young people aged between 8 - 18 years old.

Anyone can refer into Safe Haven - professionals, parents, foster parents, carers and young people themselves.
