This Pride Month, we're sharing Dan and Chris's inspiring fostering story. Together for 24 years, they have opened their hearts and home to children who needed support, growing their family in ways they never imagined.

From kinship care to fostering and becoming Mockingbird Hub Carers, their journey shows the difference that love, stability and community can make in a child's life.

Last weekend, we had a fantastic day at Blackpool Pride alongside the fostering team from Blackpool Council 🌈

It was great to be part of such a vibrant celebration of diversity, inclusion, and community spirit. The atmosphere throughout the day was amazing, with colourful performances, entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to come together and celebrate what makes our communities unique.

All our local councils believe every child deserves to grow up in a home where they feel valued, accepted, and supported. Events like Blackpool Pride are a wonderful reminder of the importance of creating inclusive communities where everyone can thrive🥰

As it’s Foster Care Fortnight, we wanted to celebrate another fab fostering couple.

Gillian and Colin have been fostering with us for around three years. As one of their birth children still lives at home, the couple were initially wanting to care for younger children so they could see how their son adjusted.

They then decided to consider caring for some of our older children and siblings.

The couple are part of our Mockingbird programme, which enables our foster carers to join a community with other foster families in Blackpool.

We asked Gillian how she has found caring for some of our older children and about the impact of fostering.

Gillian told us: “Older children do give a different kind of perspective as a foster carer, but as long as you have patience it really helps. Fostering has changed our lives. We love seeing children safe and happy and thriving with the right support in place.”
