D-Day local history.
, we need your help!
Do you know anyone connected to WW2 and the preparations for D-Day in this area (southern end of Wi******er-mid Hampshire.)
At our WI, we are partnering with others to put together a display to be shown at Wi******er library.
So, we want to find out any local memories or artefacts from the older members of the villages, towns and cities.
We are researching the run up to D-Day focussing on the roles of women and experiences of the persons in Bushfield camp (which was just south of Wi******er.)
We are particularly interested in individual stories from the area called Bushfield camp in the war.
We want to know about the lives of the men, women and children/ young people of the area at the time.
We know women did things to help the D-day preparations including creating camouflage, sea sickness bags, riveting the sea craft together etc. It would be great to have personal stories. Artefacts and photographs from the time would also be really helpful.
Do you know anyone who stayed at Bushfield and who they were as people. What they went on to do after their stay.
All the information will be collated with the help of the D-Day Experience museum in Portsmouth and with the assistance and keen eye of professional and amateur historians assigned to us.
The idea is to ultimately produce a large display exhibit explaining the impact of D-Day preparation on the local area.
All help will be gratefully received. DM us here or email our fabulous president: [email protected]
