The Marches Meadow Group is celebrating National Meadows Day on Saturday 4 July this year with a Shropshire meadows open day. Over 20 meadow owners will open their gates. Come along to one, two or more during the day and find out about meadow creation and see the beauty of a traditional wildflower meadow for yourself. Meadows range in size and in age/maturity. More information about each meadow will be available nearer the time. Tickets are £5 if you are not already a member of MMG (free to MMG members). If you are interested in wildflower meadow creation and rejuvination and are free for a day or two next week, there are still some spaces available at the third Meadows Conference this year being held at Kew Wakehurst in Sussex in collaboration with the Middle Marches Community Land Trust and the Marches Meadow Group. Over the winter, Minsterley Meadows conservation volunteers have been hard at work removing old fencing, ready for new fencing and clearing litter and debris from the ditches.

The Middle Marches Community Land Trust 2026 calendar is now on sale at the reduced price of £15. All monies go towards the purchase of White Grit Meadows near Bishops Castle, wonderful remnant SSSI meadows with huge billowing hedgerows and several rare species of flowers including devils bit scabious and dyers greenweed, plants once relatively common. All below the gaze of Corndon Hill. The calendar is A3 in size with plenty of room for appointments! They come with an envelope. You can pick one up in Bishops Castle or New Invention/Clun or have one posted to you (or as a gift to someone else) for £4.50. Any takers?
