Here’s the submission I made on behalf of local residents at yesterday’s Planning meeting. I had 3 minutes to speak and had to address the information that the BCC lawyer had shared earlier in the meeting about why this already refused application was back before the committee yesterday.

This is Kings Norton Green after 3pm today.
According to the reports regarding Highways, Traffic and parking submitted to Planning Committee in respect of the application for a 9 bedroom bed and breakfast at Molly’s cafe, The Green quietens after 3pm. I haven’t found a single local resident who agrees with this argument. I wonder if the author of these reports have ever actually been to The Green.

Here’s the discussion of the Planning Application for Molly’s Cafe at August meeting of Planning Committee. It’s worth watching to the end.
This matter is back in front of the committee tomorrow at 10am for ‘determination of the reasons’ for the application being refused.
The current Kings Norton North councillor said at the start of the August meeting that he was going to abstain and then voted in favour of the application. You can see his comments in the attached video. He seems to be saying it’s going to be developed regardless of what residents want which I, as a local resident, find very concerning.

I have asked to speak at Planning tomorrow to try and ensure the August decision to refuse isn’t overturned, please ensure your elected representative, whose job it is to represent local residents, does the same.

Please support this fantastic group to enable them to have a permanent home. SEND Socials provide much needed support to so many families, being able to have a permanent base would help them to build on their already fantastic work.

❤ SEND Socials are trying to save Halescroft Centre. After 8 years of not having a home, we want to finally build one.❤

For years, SEND families in Birmingham have been fighting for safe, accessible spaces. Places where our children can be themselves, where parents feel supported, and where community isn’t an afterthought but the foundation.

For eight years, we’ve carried our community from borrowed rooms, hired halls, loaned spaces and we’ve made it work. We are genuinely grateful for every venue that has opened its doors to us. But oh, how we would love a place to call our own. A place where we can do more, for more of the time. A place where we can finally set up permanent, purpose‑built spaces for our families.

Eight years of adapting, lifting, shifting, making do, and creating magic wherever we could… because our families deserve connection and safety even when we didn’t have a home.

And in that time, we’ve grown into an award‑winning, community‑led organisation, providing thousands of activity spaces every year 👏

But our families deserve more.

The Halescroft Centre is one of the last remaining buildings in our neighbourhood that could become a dedicated SEND Community Hub. A permanent home designed around inclusion, sensory needs, accessibility, and belonging.

A home where:
❤ Children can play without judgement
❤ Young people can grow in confidence
❤ Parents and carers can breathe, connect and feel understood
❤ Our community can finally have stability

We’ve waited eight years for a chance like this.
We cannot lose it to redevelopment.

That’s why we’re launching our petition to protect Halescroft through an Asset of Community Value (ACV) nomination. This is our opportunity - maybe our only one - to secure a future home for SEND Socials and the families we serve.
