Black Maternal Health Awareness Week certainly transcends beyond just this period of time, and we’re grateful to be doing the work on the ground alongside some really powerful movers and shakers.

This week our very own Carly & Cheraine delivered and facilitated a session in the maternal experiences of Black mothers and the importance of culturally safe care.

Allowing a safe nurturing space for the healthcare professionals to reflect on their experiences and how they can improve care for Black women in their care during their visits and stay at the hospital and beyond.

Change happens when we listen to understand, not just listen to respond.

Our voices for change must be amplified regularly in any rooms they can.

For Black Maternal Health Awareness Week 2026, the theme is leading with solutions, not trauma 🧡

A gentle reminder: your story will always matter.

And also that how you choose to move forward is yours.

You deserve to be heard, respected, and taken seriously still, even when you’re speaking from a place of growth, strategy, and solutions… not just survival and pain.

Both can exist.
And most of all, BOTH are valid.

Share this with another Black mother who needs it.

Last week’s support highlighted an important reminder, which is both EDUCATION and AWARENESS.

This mum had a previous positive breastfeeding experience struggled to understand why her second premature baby (almost 34 weeks) was finding it difficult to latch.

Babies born at this stage are often still developing the ability to coordinate sucking, swallowing, and breathing which can impact feeding.

With the right support and reassurance, mums can feel empowered rather than discouraged.

✨ Breastfeeding isn’t one-size-fits-all… even for the same mum.

We honour Black Maternal Health all year round and are proudly walking this walk for Black mothers each and every day, on the ground, in the wards, at our events and online within our community.

Come and FOLLOW us! We march alongside you!

🚨The NMC have decided to embed anti-racist principles across midwiery education.

While we are very happy to hear this news after years and years of campaigning we still need to be assured that this is not a performative measure.

You see it’s easy to make these changes, but sustaining them at all levels of the system is equally as important and another thing entirely.

We have to make sure the experiences and the voice of the mothers are at the centre of all of these principles, not on the periphery.

It’s also interesting that we have the coercion in maternity care for Black women reported by The Voice Newspaper, where they are being threatened with police and social services intervention. We know of cases where the police have been sent to the house of a one day postnatal mum because she exercised her birth rights.

Don’t even get me started on the mum in the USA who was taken to court during labour!

Racism, bias, coercion and lack of dignity. I pray this move by the NMC is put into practice fast!

🥹 Which one would your baby say if they could speak?

Some days they’re all about milk…
Other days they just want to be held forever 🧡

Every stage of babyhood comes with its own little personality, and before you know it, they’ve moved on to the next one. It’s beautiful, exhausting, and gone in a blink.

So tell us, Mama, what would your baby be saying right now? 👶🏽✨
Comment or VOTE A, B, C or D below OR feel free to comment your own! Let’s see which stage everyone’s in!

And if you’ve got a mama-friend who’d laugh at this, send it to her - we promise she’ll know exactly which one her baby is too.

These are just some of the questions we ask in our Infant Baby Feeding group! Want to join?! We’d love to hold space for you! Drop us a DM today!

💌 Share the slide you needed most today, OR send this to a mama friend as the reminder you know she might need🧡

Black mothers are often expected to be everything for everyone 🤔 strong, present, patient, resilient - all at the same time. But in the middle of holding everything together, it’s easy to forget to check in with YOURSELF.

This is your gentle Monday pause. A moment to breathe, to reflect, and to remember that your wellbeing matters just as much as the people you care for every day.

You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to ask for help.
You are allowed to be cared for too.

Save this for the days you feel overwhelmed, and come back to it whenever you need a reminder that you are doing enough, and you are worthy of the same softness you give to everyone else. 🧡
