Dear Members,

As another year comes to an end, I wanted to say, thank you from BFAWU union . Thank you for everything you have done in 2025.

I would also like to thank the engine of BFAWU which is the hard working, knowledgeable and skilful Advice and our union Representation team who are by far the reason a lot of members join BFAWU.

Thank you sincerely for your continuing membership and engagement with BFAWU . Have a great festive break and here and somewhere there will be food workers working hard over the festive period providing a side to food manufacturing that the public rarely sees or media reporting on the great work we do 24hr, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year . As we look forward to 2026, I know we will continue to work together successfully to campaign for better pay, conditions, workers’ rights, and equality .

I wish you, your families and loved ones a happy Christmas and let’s hope for a kinder and peaceful new year.

🚨BREAKING: Employment Rights Bill passes in the House of Lords and will become law.

This is an historic day for working people across the country, and the trade unions who represent them.

Some of the watershed measures this Bill delivers:
➡️ Banning exploitative zero hours contracts
➡️ Sick pay for all from day one
➡️ Expanding paternity, parental and bereavement leave
➡️ Strengthening protections for pregnant women, whistle-blowers and victims of sexual harassment
➡️ Making flexible working the default
➡️ Repealing Tory anti-union laws

Unions and workers have long campaigned for these vital rights.

Finally, working people will enjoy more security, better pay and dignity at work thanks to this Bill.

📣 The real Living Wage rates have risen!

As of today. 22nd October 2025, the real Living Wage rates have increased to:

⭐£13.45 across the UK
⭐ £14.80 in London

Following today’s increase, half a million workers will get a pay rise worth thousands of pounds a year more than the Government’s ‘National Living Wage’ thanks to the commitment of a growing movement of over 16,000 leading employers including IKEA Everton Football Club and Aviva.

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate independently calculated based on what is needed to cover living costs and live with stability and security.

With 4.5 million workers in the UK paid less than the real Living Wage and struggling to make ends meet, our movement has never been more important.

Katherine Chapman, Executive Director of the Living Wage Foundation, said:

“The new rates announced today will make a massive difference to workers and their families, helping them to better cope with the costs of rent, bills, food and other essentials, and to live with stability and security.”
