Our Ghusl Workshop at East Birmingham Central Masjid UK was a great success. Many youngsters participated and learned the correct Islamic method of performing Ghusl (ritual purification) and Ghusl al-Mayyit (washing the deceased).

In shaa Allah, we will continue organising these beneficial courses to help our community learn the essential knowledge every Muslim should know.

A special thank you to all the youngsters who attended. Snacks and refreshments were also provided to encourage and support our youth in connecting with the masjid.

Follow our page to stay updated on future courses, and make sure you and your children join us next time.

Question:
If a woman is in the state of menstruation (hayd) or post-natal bleeding (nifas) during the days of Hajj or at the time of returning home, will Tawaf al-Wada’ (Farewell Tawaf) still be obligatory on her, or will it be dropped?
*Questioner:* Shahidah Haq

*Answer, with the help of Allah, the King, the Bestower:*

If a woman is in the state of menstruation or post-natal bleeding at the time of departure, then Tawaf al-Wada’ is not obligatory on her. Rather, it is dropped. So she can return to her home country without doing Tawaf al-Wada’, and there will be no penalty (dam) or expiation (fidyah) required from her.

This is because Tawaf al-Wada’ is obligatory on pilgrims coming from outside Makkah (afaqi), but the pure Shariah has exempted women who are menstruating or in post-natal bleeding from this obligation.

It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her), and it was said: “She has started her period.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Perhaps she will detain us.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah! She has already done Tawaf al-Ifadah (Tawaf al-Ziyarah).” So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then there is no problem, she can leave.”
(Sunan Abi Dawood, Vol 1, p. 274)

In _Radd al-Muhtar (Shami)_ it says:
“Tawaf al-Sadr (Tawaf al-Wada’) is not obligatory on a menstruating or post-natal bleeding woman.”
(Radd al-Muhtar ‘ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, Vol 3, p. 545)

In _Ghunyat al-Nasik_ it says:
“It is not obligatory on a menstruating or post-natal bleeding woman.”
(Ghunyat al-Nasik, p. 190)

In _Bada’i’ al-Sana’i’_ it says:
“A menstruating or post-natal bleeding woman does not have to do Tawaf al-Wada’.”
(Bada’i’ al-Sana’i’, Vol 2)

So, in the situation asked about, if a woman is in the state of menstruation or post-natal bleeding at the time of returning home, then Tawaf al-Wada’ is dropped from her, and she can go back without doing Tawaf al-Wada’. According to Shariah, no penalty (dam) will be due on her.

And Allah knows best.
