In Memory of Steve Harris SHY - Fund Raising for Brain Tumour Research

In Memory of Steve Harris SHY - Fund Raising for Brain Tumour Research Steve Harris was my beloved husband for 27 years and beyond, Soulmate, Best Friend, Guitarist, Songwriter and Driving Force for SHY

I have created this page in memory of Steve who was randomly struck down with a GBM brain tumour in June 2009 and who against all the odds survived until October 2011, due to his positivity, inner strength and his determination to stay with me as long as he possibly could. I nursed Steve single-handedly throughout this time, and stayed with him almost continously during periods of hospitalisation

- I painfully watched a little bit of Steve being taken away each day and saw first hand how cruel this illness is.There is nothing that will bring Steve back, but out of his illness I want to achieve something positive and that is to raise awareness of brain tumours and to organise and promote fund raising events in his memory. 100% of donations and money raised via The Steve Harris (SHY) Memorial Fund is gifted to The Brain Tumour Charity to support research into GBM brain tumours. The Charity is a lifeline to those diagnosed with brain tumours and offer support to patients and their families through this devastating illness. The dedicated scientific research this Charity funds ensures that one day they can make a difference and improve or even save the lives of the innocent victims of this indiscriminate and horrible disease.Losing Steve has been the biggest and most unexpected shock of my life (and I've had a few). He has left behind the most fabulous musical legacy spanning almost 30 years and a wealth of happy memories.I will never let Steve be forgotten, he was too special and I will make sure he always has a voice and a presence as he lives on through me.A fantastic husband and best friend, outstanding musician / songwriter with no ego or self-importance and finally the bravest of soldiers who fought a battle we knew he was never going to win with a smile and a joke - I am so very proud of him. He really was a 'one off'.With love to everyone.Devoted wife Deb x

‘Into my World a little rain’s got to fall sometime’ 😢

At Steve’s funeral, I arranged for this song to be played as Steve was carried into the Chapel, a song that he wrote in it’s entirety, the other song from his last ever musical work that he also wrote in it’s entirety is ‘Over You’…..the writing credits for these two songs are incorrect on the album sleeve notes, but they are both registered correctly.

Steve is unable to perform this song himself, but this guy will perform it for him and believe me, it’s the closest you’re ever going to get to hearing Steve’s unique tone and melodic playing style. It’s quite unbelievable, like a spiritual transmission.

From the scrapbook, an excerpt from a pre-release review of ‘Misspent Youth’…….

“Side One’s opener ‘Burnin’ Up’ grinds like a dentist’s drill on a broken tooth and involves some impressive lead work from guitarist Steve Harris. Tony Mills’ voice still sounds as if it has no upper limit on the heights to which it can soar and carries the melody lines with conviction and aggression”.

I’m not gonna argue with that 😃

My husband and Tony, both deeply missed.

Good Evening 🙂

This is the interview that was featured in 'Hard Force' magazine (last night's post). It's in French of course and was sent to me by Pierre Bounhiol (thanks again Pierre). Steve also filed a copy of this interview in his scrapbook.

Still living the 80's mood and time travelling.

SHY made it onto the cover of French music magazine ‘Hard Force’ in May 1987 alongside a 3-page article and interview that focused on ‘Excess All Areas’, the legendary album produced by Neil Kernon.

This was a great issue for SHY to be featured in, Steve being a massive RATT fan (as am I) and Warren a guitarist he greatly admired.

I’m going to give ‘Excess’ a spin tonight AND ‘Dancing Undercover’.

Shout out to our new followers…..thank you so much for being here.

Today we remember that on May 28th 2020 we lost another very special virtuoso guitarist, the one and only Mr. Bob Kulick. Steve met Bob on Meatloaf’s 1987 20/20 World Tour when SHY were blessed to secure their support slot for the British leg of this tour.

Two great guys, two great players. Here’s Steve at Bob’s Hollywood home getting a guitar lesson!

Now I cannot call myself a diehard fan of Meatloaf’s music (and tbh, neither could Steve), though we appreciate it….but ‘Blind Before I Stop’ is something else and one of my favourite albums. If I decide to give this wonderful album a spin it can be a grief trigger, but I’ve taught myself to process this highly individual and emotional pain in a comforting and nostalgic way and make it a sacred tribute and a connection to beautiful memories.

We also loved ‘In For The Count’ by Balance and still have our original vinyl copy.

With fond memories of Bob and this once in a lifetime experience.
