• Some roles (especially lower-qualified ones) could face a 15-year pathway.

The UK government has published proposals for a new “earned settlement” system.

Under these proposals, the standard ILR qualifying period would increase from 5 years to 10 years for most routes, including work visas, with a 15-year route for some lower-qualified Skilled Worker roles.

A public consultation is now open on how these changes should work, including how they would be applied to people already in the UK on Skilled Worker visas and what transitional arrangements should look like.

These changes are not yet in force. We will share updates as the consultation and legislation progress.

Many of us came to the UK, worked hard, paid taxes, and built our lives here with the hope of achieving stability through ILR.
But with the recent discussions and possible rule changes, many Skilled Workers are feeling uncertain and stressed about their future.

Fairness matters.
Stability matters.
And transitional arrangements should protect people who are already on their pathway to settlement.

I truly hope the Home Office considers the impact these changes have on thousands of families who have committed years of their lives to the UK.

Let’s stay informed, support each other, and continue raising our voices respectfully. 🇬🇧
