Bexley Branch of CAMRA

Bexley Branch of CAMRA The Bexley Borough branch of the Campaign for Real Ale And of course, London's reputation for fine and historic pubs is well known. More beer, more cheer!

We are the Bexley Branch of CAMRA, (Campaign for Real Ale) – the branch is part of the Kent region, while our area is defined by the borders of the London Borough of Bexley. London was once known as the capital of the world for beer with the exporting of its famous brews all around the globe. Today, although there are fewer breweries, London has recently seen a steady growth in the number of its s

mall brewers, due to the increasing demand for a variety of different ales. Kent too has a fine tradition in the brewing industry, providing the overwhelming majority of the nation’s all-important hops. The qualities of the different varieties are exploited by the brewers to produce a wide variety of interesting beers. As in London, the number of small breweries in Kent is still continuing to increase – and many Kentish pubs, especially those in country villages, are truly outstanding. We at Bexley hold regular monthly meetings at different pubs throughout the borough. They’re always very informal and are usually held on the second Wednesday of each month. Added to that are the purely social meetings, which we also enjoy every month. They normally take the form of a crawl of three or so pubs near one another on a weekday evening, and occasionally we have a Saturday crawl starting at lunch time and taking in a larger number of pubs. These social meetings often explore pubs outside the borough. We organise our own beer festival each year (click the tab on the left for details) and support others in the area, both as customers and as volunteer helpers. Please explore our site by clicking on the other tabs to the left, and if you’re not already a member of CAMRA, why not consider joining? If you wish to receive occasional branch e-mails of event details, please send an email to the branch contact who will add you to his distribution list. All e-mails are sent as 'blind copy' so your e-mail address will not be revealed to others. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that the information on this site is accurate and up to date, no responsibility for errors and omissions can be accepted. Nearly missed this news item: Does anyone think that ownership by a Spanish lager producer will be better for Old Speckled Hen than its debasing ownership by Greene King has been?

Production of the former Morland brand will shift from Suffolk to Bedford.

More traditional or well-established beers in the “used to be a decent pint, that” category.

And apart from the debasement of our traditional ales, ciders and perries through punitive duties, it contributes to the overall cost pressures burdening our breweries and pubs - and their customers - leading to the ongoing closures of breweries and pubs (2 pubs per day currently, over 2,000 in the last 5 years and over 16,000 since the year 2000 - gone forever).

Adnams reported a one per cent decline in off-trade beer volumes, but this outperformed the wider 5 per cent decline in the market.

2026 CAMRA Bexley Beer & Cider Festival.
That’s it for another year. Last of the punters gone, volunteers doing some initial clearing up and preparatory work before the take-down day tomorrow (Sunday) and stopping to have a welcome and deserved final tipple from the remaining beers & ciders. Attendance and consumption numbers will follow in due course, along with Beer and Cider of the Festival results.

Third and final day of the 2026 CAMRA Bexley Beer & Cider Festival. The sun’s come out, there’s plenty of beer, cider and perry left (check out the on-line beer list), a cricket match tees off at 12pm and the festival is open NOW (a printing error shows it as 2pm) and we’re waiting to greet you!

It’s always good when there’s a cricket match match on at our host club: Last night, it was a youth team; tonight it’s a senior midweek XI playing a friendly 100 match. It’s been a good day. Looking forward to an equally good final day tomorrow: Come on down!

Day 2 of the 2026 Bexley Beer & Cider Festival sees the first three beers sold out:
1st gone - Bexley Brewery’s 4.8% “Coconut Porter”;
2nd gone - Hammerton Brewery’s 5.6% “Crunch” peanut butter milk stout;
3rd gone - Titanic Brewery’s 4.9% “Cherry Porter”.

There is still a LOT of beer, cider and perry left, so get on down here. This evening, there’ll be a T20 cricket match in front of the beer tent and our catering partners, Dartfordians Bar, Power Crust Pizza and (Insta) are keeping the crowds well-fed.

The Bexley Beer and Cider Festival 2026 honours festival (and CAMRA) stalwart, Peter Trout, whom we lost in November. The festival design features an image of Peter in his trade-mark green (often holey) jumper, drinking his ale from his favoured 1/2 or 1/3 pt glass, a vinyl record (his other passion), as well as the usual Bexley beerfest logo of a Kentish stallion swigging ale.

Dartfordians Community Sports Club has kindly agreed to place a bench on its grounds in honour of the many years Peter co-managed the beerfest there.

The volunteer organisers of the Bexley Beerfest hope that all attenders at our 2026 extravaganza enjoy the offering and the cricket club setting in which it’s held. We thank our hosts, Dartfordians Community Sports Club (Dartfordians Bar) and our catering partners (Power Crust Pizza). Whatever your tipple (or tipples), please enjoy it responsibly and at all times remember: Be kind! A lot of preparatory work goes into making it all happen and we all want it to be a success.
