Heartbreaking

Meet Bugsy. The nine-year-old feline has become one of London's most unwanted cats after spending 250 days waiting for a new family. 😿

Rescue centres in London have seen a surge in abandoned pets since the pandemic.

Many boroughs have experienced a 200% increase in rescue cases driven by post-lockdown lifestyle changes, cost of living pressures, and veterinary backlogs.

Bugsy was brought to the Battersea rescue centre in December.

He has now waited more than eight times longer than the average cat at the dogs and cats home.

Staff describe the nine-year-old feline as incredibly affectionate and say he delights in welcoming familiar faces with a gentle head bump or settling in for a chin rub.

Despite being a mature cat, he still has a playful streak and loves chasing string toys and investigating cardboard boxes.

He is equally content snuggled on a warm lap for an afternoon nap as he is batting about his favourite toys.

Bugsy has spent months watching other cats depart to new homes.

Staff are desperate to find him a loving family where he can savour his golden years in warmth and comfort.

Anyone keen to rehome Bugsy can register their interest by emailing [email protected] or by completing an online form on the Battersea website.
