My Platform β Care After Every Loss
Hi everyone,
What Iβm about to share means absolutely everything to me. It has actually taken me a very long time to find the courage and strength to speak openly about this, but today I stand here as Ms North of Ireland 2026, and I know now that my voice is meant to be used for this.
My platform is simple, but it comes from deep, personal pain and experience. I am speaking out for every woman in Northern Ireland who has gone through pregnancy loss - because I have been there.
I have suffered miscarriages. I know that heartbreak, that empty feeling, that grief that never really goes away. But what hurt me even more β what felt cruel and completely unfair β was what I was told after two losses: you have to wait, you have to go through it a third time, before you can be referred to a gynaecologist or fertility specialist.
Can you imagine? After losing two babies, after already grieving twice, I was told I had to suffer more loss just to get answers, just to get help. And worse β I found out that even if you do reach that third loss, the waiting lists can be up to four years long.
This is absolutely disgraceful.
This system doesnβt just fail us β it adds pressure, it adds unnecessary pain, it forces us to grieve over and over again, not just for the babies we lost, but because we are left alone, unheard, and unsupported. When you are already broken and grieving, you shouldnβt have to fight just to be seen, just to get the basic care and support you deserve.
One miscarriage is devastating enough. Two is unbearable. To be told you must have three before anyone will investigate, before anyone will help β that is wrong. That is not care. That is not compassion. And it has to change here, in Northern Ireland.
My mission, my platform, and my purpose as your titleholder is clear: We need the rule changed. We need referral and investigation after one miscarriage, not three. No woman should have to wait years, or lose more babies, just to find out why this is happening, or to get the support she needs,
This isnβt just my story β it is the story of hundreds of women right here in our country I am speaking for all of us. I am speaking so that no one else has to feel the pressure, the isolation, or the extra grief that I went through.
I am not just a title holder , I am a voice to be heard because EVERY LOSS MATTERS. Every woman deserves answers. And every single one of us deserves to be cared for, from the very first moment we need it.
