Good to spend some time engaging with young people from Avoniel recently, discussing bonfire management, safety and the importance of promoting positive cultural expression.

These young people are often misrepresented, but the reality is that many of them are committed to keeping the site tidy and maintaining a space for responsible, community led cultural expression.

Fair play to them for the effort they are putting in. It is encouraging to see the pride they take in the site and we look forward to continuing the engagement in the weeks ahead.

Remembering young Mason.

11/03/2026

Our community is mourning the loss of Mason Keilhauer and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this very sad time.

We are aware that posts have been shared on social media encouraging people to attend Mondayโ€™s funeral with bikes and scooters. Following direct contact with the family, we have been asked to make it clear that they do not wish for this to form part of the funeral arrangements.

The family recognise that many of Masonโ€™s friends and members of the community want to show their respect and remember him in their own way. However, during this difficult period they have asked that their wishes are honoured.

Legacy Network would ask everyone to keep Masonโ€™s family in their thoughts and to support them by respecting this request.

Great to have local DUP councillor Ruth Brooks meeting the young people in Ravenhill this evening discussing bonfire safety and management initiatives. The young people are a credit to their community and take such pride in their cultural identity. Excellent to see this type of engagement taking place.

Legacy Network, Northern Ireland Alternatives and East Belfast Memorial Committee have worked together in partnership to reach agreement on the re-imaging of the large mural on the Newtownards Road.

This has been a genuinely collaborative and community-supported process. Through extensive engagement and constructive discussion, stakeholders from across the loyalist community in East Belfast have come together with respect for our shared history and a clear focus on the future.

Our past remains an important part of who we are. It has shaped our community and deserves to be understood in its proper context. At the same time, this project marks an exciting new chapter, one centred on renewal, positive expression and strengthening relationships within the area.

The unanimous support behind this initiative speaks volumes. It demonstrates leadership, maturity and what can be achieved when dialogue and goodwill are placed at the heart of decision-making.

Work will commence soon, and we look forward to unveiling a new piece of artwork that reflects both our heritage and our ambition for the future of East Belfast.

Great to be at Clonduff Community Centre today celebrating Belfast being named European City of Sport with a fun day for all ages. A great achievement for the city.

Legacy Network, working alongside Clonduff Community Association, fully supports the community decision that there will be no bonfire at the Clonduff site this coming July, following the serious accident on the 11th Night last year. Our thoughts remain with all those affected.

Through our ongoing relationships with young people in Clonduff and across East Belfast, Legacy Network will continue to encourage a strong focus on safety, responsibility, and respect at all bonfire sites.

There will be no bonfire activity at this location in Clonduff this year. No wood is to be collected or dumped, and no fires will be lit. This message is being shared early to avoid any confusion, as collections have begun early in previous years.

The area will be monitored regularly, and we ask parents and guardians to speak with children and young people to ensure this decision is respected.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

On behalf of everyone at Legacy Network we want to say a huge thank you to the Ulster Tower Street Community Group, and those members of the David Ervine Memorial Garden Committee who spearheaded the reimaging project of David Ervineโ€™s mural in East Belfast. It is great to see this self-funded grassroots initiative finally come to fruition restoring to East Belfast a fitting and special tribute to David Ervine just yards away from where he was born.

Legacy Network members were proud to attend the unveiling of this newly re-imagined mural especially on the 19th anniversary of his passing. It is once again. a fitting and respectful tribute to a man who continues to loom large in the story of loyalism and working-class Belfast.

The unveiling ceremony itself was something special. PUP leader Russell Watton, PUP Chairman Brian Lacey, Jim โ€œBimboโ€ Wilson, Davidโ€™s brother Brian Ervine and Chris Hudson each shared personal reflections, reminding everyone present of Davidโ€™s courage, honesty, and willingness to challenge his own community to think differently. His voice is still missed.

There was also a fantastic turnout from across East Belfast, with people braving the weather to show their respect. Nineteen years on from his passing, it was a powerful reminder that David Ervineโ€™s ideas and influence are still an example to people.

Huge credit is due to Jim โ€œBimboโ€ Wilson, John Williamson, the wider David Ervine Memorial Garden sub-committee, and the Ulster Tower Street Community Association. Their commitment drove this project forward, raised the necessary funds, and helped regenerate a meaningful space in memory of a significant figure.

Lots of excitement building for tomorrow eveningโ€™s unveiling of the newly re-imaged David Ervine mural in East Belfast. Huge credit to the Ulster Tower Street Community Group for the hard work thatโ€™s gone into getting it to this point.

David Ervine was a key figure within Loyalism, so itโ€™s brilliant to see this mural being properly restored and respected.

Last night we had the privilege of delivering a workshop on โ€œWhy Voting Mattersโ€ with a brilliant group of Resurgam young people in Old Warren, Lisburn.

We talked about how every election shapes the future of our communities, whether we show up or not. Decisions on housing, jobs, education, policing and local funding are made by the people who actually turn out. If we donโ€™t use our voice, somebody else will speak for us. Thatโ€™s the reality.

Voting isnโ€™t just ticking a box. Itโ€™s ownership. Itโ€™s saying our community deserves a say, our young people deserve to be heard, and our future shouldnโ€™t be decided by those who care the least.

Special thanks to Resurgam for having us up. Great to see the fantastic work theyโ€™re doing across the wider Lisburn area, empowering young people to step forward and shape the place they live.
