Black and Minority Ethnic Women's Network - BMEWN

Black and Minority Ethnic Women's Network - BMEWN The aim of the Black and Minority Ethnic Women's Network is to promote racial equality for ethnic minority women in Northern Ireland.

In July 2013, the Committee for the Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) will examine the UK’s performance and improvement on women’s rights since its last session in 2008. Like we did in 2008, the Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities will be making a submission to CEDAW, highlight the human rights of black and minority ethnic women in Northern Ireland.

We’re reaching out women across Northern Ireland to get involved in the process. We’ve met with several women’s groups across the country, holding information sessions and talking to women about their rights. This is an incredible opportunity for women in Northern Ireland to tell the world about their lives, what matters to them, and what their government should be doing about it. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch via the contact section.

Hi Everyone! This free programme is a good opportunity to look at how women are represented in NI's Digital Film Archive - and also to get ideas about ensuring that BME women are included going forward. An archive stagnates without new additions!

Happy New Year! Check out our first programme of the year! (FREE)

Where are the Women?
Tuesdays 7-8:30pm online
20th Jan – 3rd Feb
RSVP at: https://wkf.ms/3NciKxH

Join us for a 3-week programme where we explore through the Digital Film Archive, the lives and roles of women in Northern Ireland.
We will journey through the decades taking a closer look at women within the family, community and wider society and the role they play and continue to play in helping shape the past, present and future of this place we call home.

It is our pleasure and privilege to partner with documentary filmmaker Jessi Gutch to bring to Belfast her acclaimed documentary Blue Has No Borders, exploring precious and vital common grounds between communities amidst the increasingly toxic and hostile debate around immigration in the UK.

Join us for a screening of Blue Has No Borders on Sunday 23 November in the QFT at 5.45pm. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with leading anti-racism activists from Belfast. Tickets available via the QFT website.

At a time when the far-right on these islands are prepared to sacrifice peace, community and humanity at the altar of profiteering, it is incredibly important for all of us to engage in conversations, to seek common ground and to work together towards unity.

Join us for this screening, not to be missed!

Sudan: ‘I survived r**e, but I do not know how to survive life after it’
'R**e used as a weapon of war, together with other sexual violence, has disproportionately shattered the lives of women and girls. Today, gender agency UN Women estimates that 12.1 million people – 25 per cent of the population – is at risk. '
