Dare to step into a world of folklore, superstition and Halloween mystery? 👻🦇

Follow our bog goblin – we mean, ranger! – around Divis and the Black Mountain to hear about how nature has inspired stories, myths and legends connected to the most haunting time of the year.

From ravens and crows 🐦‍⬛to witches and mysterious fairy trees, this walk is a spooktacular way to start Halloween!🧙

🍂Time for the next Minnowburn Ramble!🍂

Join us on Friday next week for our Guided Minnowburn Ramble. Take a gentle stroll through woodland and along the riverbanks, listen for birdsong, chat with fellow walkers, and enjoy the calm of Minnowburn in its early autumn beauty.🍄🍄‍🟫

🍄10 October 2026 is UK Fungus Day!🍄

Coming in many shapes, colours and sizes, fungi are a vital part of the natural world. Did you know that without them, there would be no circle of life? They help break down plant and animal matter, recycling nutrients that help create new life – they absolutely deserve their very own celebration day!💖

After an exceptionally hot and dry summer, autumn is looking a little different this year, with morning mist and abundant hawthorn and sloe berries appearing earlier than usual. One thing we're delighted to see is the recent rain bringing fungi to life, with mushrooms already appearing across our landscapes.🍄🍂

This weekend is a perfect time to head out into nature and see how many different mushrooms you can discover. Don’t forget to leave them as they are and take only photos of your amazing finds.🍄‍🟫

Progress is taking shape on the new boardwalk at Divis!👷‍♂️

Our team has been making great progress on the project, and we're hopeful the new boardwalk will be completed by the end of October.

While work continues, please remember that the boardwalk is fully closed, with no access across. The Ridge Trail remains open, but visitors will need to return along the same route at closure point. The return walk is approximately 7.4 km.🥾

As part of the Divis: A View to the Future project, the new boardwalk will help protect the fragile peatland landscape while making this much-loved route more sustainable and accessible for years to come, helping more people connect with this special landscape.🌿

Perhaps it's a favourite walk, memories of growing up nearby, farming the land, or time spent exploring the hills with family and friends.

We're looking for people with a connection to Divis and Black Mountain to share their memories, experiences and stories of this special place. Your contributions will help preserve its rich history and may even feature in an audio trail on the mountain itself.

Craving an autumnal forest adventure?🍂

With the seasonal change upon us, get outdoors with us on our Guided Lisnabreeny Ramble to embrace the woodlands of the Cregagh Glen and enjoy the views from Lisnabreeny.

Our team will make sure there is good company, opportunities to spot seasonal wildlife and plenty of fun learning about the history of the area from the ancient rath overlooking the site to the more recent beginnings of the National Trust in NI.🐿️🍄

Friday 16 October: 10am–12pm
📍Meeting point at the Lisnabreeny Road car park.

The walk will be at a slow-moving pace and will take no more than two hours. Booking is not required, simply join us on the day.😊

This Friday, join our Ranger for a guided walk at Divis to discover the peat restoration work that has been going on as part of the Divis: A View to a Future project. Enjoy the views and learn about the impact peat restoration is having on the habitats and the future of the environment.

🦅Join us for a raptor spotting walk! 🦅

This time of the year brings many seasonal visitors to the Divis and Black Mountain, including the young Merlin, Hen Harrier and Short-eared Owl. The Belfast Hills have even seen an occasional Golden Eagle!

This guided walk with our local wildlife expert Aidan Crean is a wonderful opportunity to keep an eye out for our resident buzzards, ravens and kestrels.

Join us this Saturday as dark historian Andrew Johnston (Alternative Ulstours) explores Ireland’s primal relationship with wolves – natural and supernatural.
