WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A LORD LIEUTENANT’S CADET

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the stories behind the dress uniforms and highlighting the young people who - as Northern Ireland’s Lord Lieutenant Cadets for 2026 – represent their cadet organisations and their communities across the province.

Being selected as a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet is a significant honour. It recognises commitment, leadership, dedication and a spirit of service within the cadet forces, and it calls for continued commitment and dedication from these young people as they fulfil these roles.

These cadets will support their Lord Lieutenant at official engagements and ceremonial events while acting as ambassadors for young people across Northern Ireland.

But beyond the ceremonies and uniforms, each cadet has their own story.

From Air Rifle RCO and Coaching qualifications to DCCT training, our volunteers are investing their own time to gain new skills and qualifications that directly benefit our cadets.

Every new qualification strengthens our ability to deliver more safe, engaging and rewarding experiences, creating even more opportunities for cadets at 1137 Sqn.

A huge well done to all involved and thank you for your continued commitment.

Teachers and tutors share tips for students to get through exam season.

Large crowds are expected in Coleraine when Armed Forces Day takes place in the town centre in June.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council confirmed the event will take place on June 20 from 10am to 4pm.
