This is the first ever National Cadet Week promoting the work done by the cadets and volunteer staff of the current Air Training Corps, Royal Navy Cadets (Sea Cadet Corps and Volunteer Cadet Corps), Army Cadet Force, and the Combined Cadet Force.

The Cadets have a long history in the UK with the Naval Lads Brigade and first Army cadet units being able to trace their origins as far back as 1856 and 1859 respectively.

A Royal Moment to Remember 👑

Being a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet is a special role for an Air Cadet, giving them the opportunity to present their local community at civic and ceremonial occasions, supporting their Lord Lieutenant at official engagements, following being nominated for the role.

For FS Anderson Scott of 102 (Aberdeen Airport) Squadron Air Training Corps, his first engagement as Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Aberdeen City was certainly one he won't be forgetting anytime soon!

FS Scott was greeted with a royal surprise when he arrived for his first engagement since taking on the role in June, as he wasn't told he would be meeting His Majesty The King until the day itself.

As The King arrived at Marischal Square during his visit to Aberdeen, Anderson greeted him with a salute alongside Deputy Lieutenant, Ian Ord. He then stood guard while His Majesty visited the new Great British Energy office, before saluting him again as he departed.

Anderson was also able to have a brief conversation with The King, who asked how much he was enjoying his time in the Air Cadets and how his role as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet had been going.

FS Scott said: “Meeting His Majesty has been the highlight of my cadet career so far. Although it was brief, it is an experience I will never forget and one that I am extremely grateful to have had."

From representing local communities to meeting members of the Royal Family, being a Lord Lieutenant's Cadet gives our Air Cadets the opportunity to experience moments that they'll remember for years to come.

Well done, FS Scott! What a way to kick of your LLC term! Thank you for being an excellent ambassador for the Air Cadets 🙌

🇬🇧 NATIONAL CADETS WEEK | 5–11 OCTOBER 2026 🇬🇧

This October, we’re celebrating the very first National Cadets Week – a chance to shine a spotlight on the thousands of young people and adult volunteers who make up the Cadet community.

But what are the Cadets all about? 👇

For young people, Cadets is about more than uniforms and activities. It’s about building confidence, learning new skills, developing leadership, making friends and discovering what you’re capable of. From adventure training and first aid to sport, music, community activities and much more, there are opportunities to learn, grow and have fun.
And the benefits go beyond the individual. 💙

Cadet units are part of their local communities. Cadets and volunteers support community events, remember and honour those who have served, take part in fundraising and give their time to make a positive difference.

Behind every cadet is a team of dedicated Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, giving their time to help young people develop, achieve and thrive.

📣 So, during National Cadets Week, we’re asking you to get involved!

Look out for your local Cadet unit, follow their activities, share their stories, support their events – and, if you’re a young person or adult who wants to find out more, why not give Cadets a try?

TODAY, the A400M will be conducting Low Flying over NI. At approx. 1415-1430 it will be flying over the world famous Giants Causeway, coming from the Portballintrae direction, keep an eye out for this fantastic aircraft. Feel free to share your pictures & videos.
