✊ Sodexo PCS Members Solidarity Rally

Members in our sister union PCS_Union who work in Sodexo UK & Ireland have started a second wave of strike action against redundancies, cuts to hours and multitask job roles.

PCS members working for Sodexo, who previously took two weeks of strike action to oppose cuts to hours, redundancies and changes to job roles and responsibilities, have now received letters from the employer notifying them that the individual consultation has concluded and Sodexo is planning to impose the changes.

PCS members work as receptionists, cleaners, porters and kitchen staff, providing essential services in Erskine House, the UK Government Hub building, and Carne House Belfast. They are paid on or around the national minimum wage and are committed to fighting the cuts by Sodexo, a multinational outsourcing company which reported profits in the region of £679 million.

PCS does not yet have trade union recognition with Sodexo. Sodexo have flown in staff from other UK government contracts in GB to undermine the strike action. This is one of many David and Goliath disputes that demonstrate the urgent need for the Good Jobs Bill to be implemented.

This powerful production celebrates the resilience, solidarity, and struggle of the May 1926 General Strike. Brought to you by the incredible team behind Wor Bella, Carrying David, and Hadaway Harry, this is a story deeply rooted in our shared industrial heritage, reminding us that worker security and dignity have always been won through collective action and frontline strength.

The tour is proudly supported by our movement, including NIPSA, UNISON, Unite, FBU, and ICTU.

Writing today in the Belfast Newsletter, the Federation of Small Business resorted to hysteria and wild claims about the Good Jobs Bill.

Ultimately though, their message is clear: rights are only for by people who start and run businesses.

We believe rights are for everyone.

😡 DUP BLOCKS WORKER’S RIGHTS 😡

Let us be completely clear about who is standing in the way of working people here. The Democratic Unionist Party is actively blocking the Good Jobs Bill at the Executive.

The hypocrisy is astounding. They constantly claim to be unionists who want alignment with the rest of the UK, yet they are actively fighting to ensure that workers right here have worse rights and fewer protections than those in England, Scotland, and Wales. Their version of the Union stops the very second it means protecting the working class.

While they claim to represent ordinary communities, their political choices tell a completely different story. When it comes down to a choice between the health and dignity of ordinary workers or protecting employer interests, they side with the bosses every single time.

By attempting to gut this bill of trade union access, they are denying our people the basic right to organise, win better wages, and secure fairer working conditions. They want us divided, but our shared material interests as workers are identical, whether in Belfast or anywhere else.

We need a statutory right to access our unions on the shop floor, and we need it now. It is time to stop protecting business interests at the expense of working people and start delivering for the communities who actually keep this place running.

Pass the Good Jobs Bill without delay.
