Deliberative Democracy brings people together to make better decisions—here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Gathering Citizens
A diverse group of residents is chosen to represent the community.

2️⃣ Learning Together
Participants receive balanced, factual information from experts and stakeholders to understand the issue. 📚💡

3️⃣ Open Deliberation
Citizens discuss their views, share lived experiences, and respectfully consider different perspectives. 🤝

4️⃣ Making Recommendations
The group collaborates to propose solutions, ensuring they reflect the needs and values of the community. 🗳️

5️⃣ Driving Action
These recommendations influence policy decisions, bridging the gap between citizens and policymakers. 🔗

The Voice Matters project focus is to raise awareness about the ways people & communities can use their voice in decision making & introduce new ways for you to participate in democracy at the local level. This project is currently delivered in Derry/Londonderry in collaboration with .

On October 17th, Co-operation Ireland proudly launched the Voice Matters Report, highlighting 11 citizen-voted recommendations on the important question: "How can we build a better future for young people in the North West?"

This year’s report covers:
1) Project background and the workings of our citizen panel
2) A detailed description of the two weekends
3) 11 key recommendations and priority areas that were identified by the people of Derry/Londonderry

These recommendations are just the beginning of the journey—a starting point for the hard work ahead. We hope this report inspires decision-makers to listen and act on citizen-led change.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Co-operation Ireland Voice Matters Report on October 17th from 4-6pm at St Columb's Hall in Derry/Londonderry! 🎉

This report is the result of an inspiring People's Panel held over two weekends in April and May, where 30 local citizens—selected through a civic lottery—came together to explore one vital question:

"How can we build a better future for young people in the Northwest?"

These citizens, representing the community, engaged in deep discussions with experts from Queen's University Belfast, Ulster University, NICCY, Education Authority, Aware, and local grassroots initiatives. Together, they crafted a series of recommendations based on both their experiences and the valuable insights they heard.

The Voice Matters Report provides a detailed look at the panel’s process, their discussions, and the powerful recommendations that emerged.
