We are delighted to share the arrival of 20 Mother’s Day babies at Bedfordshire Hospitals.

Mum Lauren gave birth to baby girl Lottie at 11:59am, supported by the team at Bedford Hospital.

She said: “Becoming mum to Lottie on Mother’s Day was the loveliest gift I could have asked for. It made the day so special for our now family of four."

Celebrating Volunteers Week, meet Chrissy who has been volunteering at the L&D for 40 years! That must be a record! Thank you for your commitment Chrissy 👏👏👏

Chrissy has been a volunteer in the L&D Charity Hub for over 40 years, originally volunteering alongside her job as a library assistant.

In honour of Chrissy talks about her journey:

“When I first started I was a WRVS volunteer and there was a small room in the maternity clinic area with simply a kettle, tea, coffee, milk and a small selection of chocolate bars and crisps, the choice of which steadily increased, with the money taken put into a small cash box.

“Eventually we moved to where the shop is now, next to the lifts in the foyer. We got our very first cash register and a hot drinks dispenser. Soft toys, balloons, toiletries and cold drinks were added to the ever growing choice for patients, staff and visitors.

“We are now a very busy shop which is brilliant as we are all now helping to raise money for the hospital. Later this year we will be moving into our new shop in the Acute Services Block and I’m really looking forward to this. I sometimes think back to when I first started and how much it has changed and grown.

“I love my voluntary work, not just being there for the patients and visitors but for all the hard working staff who visit us for their lunches. It is really lovely seeing the new dads when they come into the shop elated, especially when the new baby is their first. Through my voluntary work I’ve also made new friends and continue to meet up with those who have chosen to retire from their voluntary duties.

“Working as a team we are providing a very worthwhile service and it is satisfying to know that we are helping to raise much needed funds for the Trust.”
