The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal for 2025 is now underway. Poppies are available throughout the parish including the pubs, White Row, Mes Amis, M&S, Starbucks, Beckington Motors, the surgery and the churches.
When something goes wrong, the RBL is there to help rebuild lives and provide members of the Armed Forces community with the support they need to create a better future.
At any given moment, the RBL is helping over 7,000 members of the Armed Forces community with expert advice and practical support. For some in the Armed Forces community, issues from service can affect them later in life, often with swift and devastating consequences. There are many reasons that could cause a veteran’s life to fall apart – the lasting impact of a training accident, the loss of a friend, or battlefield trauma. In addition to providing practical or financial support, the RBL also has six care homes designed for veterans and their families, including five providing specialist dementia care.
Money raised during this year’s appeal will enable RBL’s vital work supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families whenever it’s needed.
Thank you for your support.

Friday 15 August marks 80 years since Japan's surrender to Allied Forces, signifying the end of hostilities in World War II. The Second World War generation changed the course of history and commenced the rebuilding of an exhausted country in the post war years. These men and women defended the freedoms we enjoy today. Our village War Memorial records the names of 17 members of the Beckington, Berkley and Standerwick communities who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their Country during the Second World War.

There will be national commemorations on the day, including a 2 minute silence at 12 noon and a Service at the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

In Beckington, we will be marking the day with a Wreath Laying at our Memorial in St George’s Churchyard at 12 Noon, led by our Chaplain Michael White.

From 3pm, there will be Afternoon Tea at the Memorial Hall, with the usual sandwiches, cakes and other fayre to enjoy. We will have some display boards with information about the end of the War. There is no entrance fee, but we will be running a raffle and asking for donations to the RBL Poppy Appeal.

Do please come along if you are able.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) has launched a new strategy for its work out to 2035. For over 100 years it has adapted to changes in the Armed Forces community’s needs, providing transformative services and ensuring that the dedication and service of the Armed Forces community is not forgotten.
The UK population is growing slowly, and ageing - whilst the veteran population is shrinking and will more closely reflect the general population. Service life is changing, and current trends suggest that the people who will need support are likely to be early in their working life, more diverse, and will have quite different needs from older veterans or those who may have served for much longer.
The RBL’s ambition is to bring society together to recognise, remember, and support the Armed Forces community using the connections made across communities and wider society to support those in need and to promote the important role of Remembrance in bringing people together.
