Kids in Kathmandu Nepal

Kids in Kathmandu Nepal Kids in Kathmandu Nepal (KIKN) supports and creates access to education for orphans and disadvantaged children living in Kathmandu.

It feeds @ 950 children daily through 9 breakfast clubs and sponsoring 23 children up to University level in 2026 Nepal- the land of mountains. This is one place I have always wanted to visit. Upon my retirement, I managed to collect generous donations from colleagues, friends and family, and embarked on a life changing journey

Our big school project for this year has now been finalised at Neel Barahi Secondary School. As well as paying for a salary increase for the computer teacher the main element was an upgrade to the school hall. Several events have been pictured showing the new work on their Facebook postings. One lovely aspect to this is that they are commemorating it to Lai See (as this was the first school that we started working with in Kathmandu in 2011). You can see the plaque on the hall wall showing Lai See's photo below. They have done an excellent job upgrading the hall and I am looking forward to seeing it in November.

On Saturday I attended the 80th birthday celebrations of David Milner, ex Director of Finance for the South East London Strategic Health Authority. David very kindly asked guests to support one of two charities in lieu of birthday gifts, with one of the two charities being KIKN. It was a lovely outdoor occasion celebrated with family and friends with the sum of over £600 being raised for the charity. A big thank you to David and his family and friends.

Two more of our school projects have recently been completed. Shree Janavikash school, where school uniforms, teaching materials for an ECD class and an ECD playstation were purchased. The other school was Shree Guhyheshwari school. We provided a sound system for the assembly hall, two laptops and a photocopier/printer. You can see some photos from both schools below.

On Wednesday 17th June I was honoured to be invited to the IDX Gala Dinner in aid of Futures For Kids (FFK) as KIKN is one of five charities that they support. It is a grand black tie event held at Old Billingsgate in the city and as you can see from the photos it has a grand view to the Belfast and Tower Bridge. It was a lovely evening and it was nice to meet some of the other FFK Trustees as well as some of the other heads of charities that FFK also supports. Hopefully it will also have raised more vital funds for FFK.

In the last couple of days I can confirm that our London Marathon fundraising target of £5,000 has now officially been reached. Thank you Cal for running and raising funds on behalf of KIKN. A big thank you to all the friends and other supporters who donated as well. Pictured are Cal and some of his supporters enjoying a well earned drink after the race. These funds are going to be used to fund the winter clothing for the pupils at Ishwor School.

Some of our school projects for this year have already been completed. 75 new four-seater desk benches were funded for Shree Buddha School. Four different coloured desk benches have now been sourced locally and are now in use (see photos below). At Jagat Sundar Bwonekuthi School 2,500 exercise books, 1,500 pencils and 30 school bags were funded. The principal reported that the children were very excited to receive their new educational materials. She also said that KIKN's support to the school had seen an increase in numbers at the school (see photos of the distribution to pupils).

Well, what a record breaking day it turned out to be for KIKN's first London Marathon. Cal, our first ever runner was supported by a small team from KIKN, including his mum, step dad, friends and Rasmila (see photo below). Cal completed his first ever marathon in 5:04:11, a terrific achievement, and including GiftAid has currently raised over £4,300 of our £5,00 target. Thank you to everyone that has already donated. It is still not too late if you would like to add our total which is going to fund winter clothing at Ishwor School. Please click on the link below if would like to donate.
