Keep Batley Tidy Group

Batley is starting a blueprint for change, with the Keep Batley Tidy Group working to keep the town tidy for everyone.

As many councils face funding challenges, this group aims to support the community and help keep Batley litter-free.

If you are using a service to get rid rid of your bulky waste please ensure you use a registered company, this means that your waste will be taken to the appropriate tip and waste companies. Don’t let someone take your waste and fly tip as it will come back to you!

Take the time to check out the company and if they are a registered waste removal company. 💚♻️💚♻️💚

We completed a fantastic clean up today!
Disappointingly No Tesco Staff! And no other volunteers!
I would like to thank Jackie my steadfast volunteer who attends all the litter picking sessions but considering the amount of work we did imagine what else could be achieved with more people!

Today we cleared the litter along Bradford Road at the side of Aldi and turned over all the moss and muck ready to be collected into bags

We cleaned the entrance and exit into Tesco and The plaza of all rubbish, moss and w**ds, then we moved along the garage, across all the Tesco landscaping and facing the BP garage and beyond collecting litter! Retrieved a supermarket trolley abandoned behind the bushes and collected all the litter from behind and in-front of the bushes, swept the stairs and collected all the litter down to the lamp post In front and behind the bushes!
2.5 hours of hard graft!

Tomorrow with another team we will tidy up Batley Library Landscaping!

We need Volunteers desperately! Half an hour, 1 hour, 2 hours ….. it makes a HUGE difference!
Love where you live and let’s make it nice for everyone! As fast as we pick it up someone else is dropping it!

We always struggle to get volunteers even though the litter keeps increasing!
If you can spare half an hour, an hour, 2 hours! Please do join us …. it is so worth while for keeping our community clean! Thank you ❤️

We have had a busy morning!
A very huge thank you to the lady with the lovely pink hair and her daughter ( I am so sorry I didn’t get your names! 🩷) and the wonderful Batley Cricket Club who came with lots of talented young men from the cricket teams and two directors!
Without volunteers we would never be able to collect the litter we do! Thank you all for your time and litter picking! ♥️

We also swept up the leaves on branch Road into piles as they become a danger zone with slipping when wet! We will collect and bag this week! Finally we got to finish the pavement heading to the bus station from the top of branch Road! If you remember it was over grown like a scene from a sci Fi film! It’s now clean, w**d and moss free and we also collected all the leaves!

We keep trying to tackle different areas and will be going up to the library next week to sort out the over grown area by the side entrance! We will put out a shout for volunteers if anyone would like to join in and do some w**ding!

All in a great morning! Thank you so much to all our volunteers on this one and all the others! ♥️♥️♥️

From the next litter pick we will be leaving signs like this to show the area has been cleaned, it will say our group and hopefully keep our community and visitors mindful on putting litter in the bin or taking it home with them! 💚

We also be asking Aldi to ensure they clear their litter from the landscaping areas nightly as there is no fence it just blows directly onto Bradford Road, we picked up too many Aldi Receipts and food packaging at the top of Branch Road and Bradford Road today! 💚

What a busy morning we have had!
The team did a full litter pick across all the front of the landscaping so from the bin on Bradford Road to the end of the garage we have picked and bagged! We also collected litter on route to Tesco along Bradford Road and cleared the steps at Aldi and started clearing all the moss and litter from under the railings in front of Aldi landscaping!
Thank you to Bev & Gary from Tesco, Jackie our true and faithful volunteer and councillor Akthar Kasia who gave us a good hour of his time.♥️
(Bev is camera shy so took the photo! 🥰)

The situation of litter in Batley is bad! In certain areas it is truly an eyesore and we really need more volunteers, if you can spare an hour please do come and join us! Tidy town means more visitors and much more enjoyment for the whole community! Children are very welcome on all the litter picks and we do give a safety talk first and provide gloves and litter pickers. We would love to see at least 20 persons at the next one, it means we can clear so much more! ♥️ please do join us you will be greatly appreciated!

Posts for the next litter pick are out next week 💚

A brilliant litter pick this morning and we shifted plenty of litter! 16 large bags all done and dusted leaving a fabulous clean area ♥️

Thank you to Simone, Gary and Bev from Tesco not only did Gary & Bev do the litter picking but we were also given some bedding plants and shrubs for the corner bench area! The collaboration with Tesco is working really well! Next time we move to the middle area of the landscaping to give that a good fettle!

Thank you to Jackie who without fail attends all the litter picking sessions! You are truly a superstar! And finally Akthar our local councillor who worked his socks off and bagged, swept to the end of the hedges!

Without volunteers we would not be able to collect the litter we do, if you fancy joining us it would be really helpful and very much appreciated! We do what we do for the community and to get batley looking nice!

Next Litter pick September 5th details to be posted soon! 💚💚💚

We had an amazing litter clean up on Sunday and many thanks to all our volunteers for completing such a massive task! 46 bags in total from under and behind the bushes from the steps to the delivery entrance along Bradford Road.

Unfortunately this will not stay like this for long! Litter thrown out of cars, the litter that blows across from the BP garage ( plastic gloves and general litter) plus the fly tipping! We have regular clean up dates booked in and working with Tesco staff hope to keep this area relatively clean.

In Edinburgh businesses and home owners are given the responsibility of keeping the front of house/business w**d free and litter free, the local authority oversee this and will fine those that do not comply as it keeps the city old and new looking it’s very best ….. how good would it be to adopt this to the town centre in Batley!
No more w**ds growing through railings, the moss and w**ds cleared from the entrance to Tesco and the bus station road off branch road.
It’s time to bring back some civic pride to the town!

Finally …. We have started clearing the moss and w**ds at the top end of Bradford Road and Branch Road, can we appeal to the following
Aldi Batley
Shake bee
Kabuliwala
CGI Accountants
Eclipse Dental Care
Uk Wrestling (Ukw)
BP Garage Batley

Outside all your premises there is a huge amount of w**ds, daily litter and cigarette ends, whilst this is not really our job, the council simply do not provide cleaning anymore for public areas and footpaths, if everyone can clear outside their buildings it will make a huge difference!

As a volunteer group we need all the help we can get and this would help! The flower tubs at the top of Branch Road also need water if someone could please water for us that would be amazing!

Taking steps like this can make a huge difference. Shake Bee has put some lovely picnic tables outside their premises, the effort is lost if you leave all the litter surrounding them on the corner!

Thank you All 💚💚💚💚
