Keep Batley Tidy Group Batley is starting a blueprint for change, with the Keep Batley Tidy Group working to keep the town tidy for everyone.

As many councils face funding challenges, this group aims to support the community and help keep Batley litter-free.

A brilliant litter pick this morning and we shifted plenty of litter! 16 large bags all done and dusted leaving a fabulous clean area ♥️

Thank you to Simone, Gary and Bev from Tesco not only did Gary & Bev do the litter picking but we were also given some bedding plants and shrubs for the corner bench area! The collaboration with Tesco is working really well! Next time we move to the middle area of the landscaping to give that a good fettle!

Thank you to Jackie who without fail attends all the litter picking sessions! You are truly a superstar! And finally Akthar our local councillor who worked his socks off and bagged, swept to the end of the hedges!

Without volunteers we would not be able to collect the litter we do, if you fancy joining us it would be really helpful and very much appreciated! We do what we do for the community and to get batley looking nice!

We had an amazing litter clean up on Sunday and many thanks to all our volunteers for completing such a massive task! 46 bags in total from under and behind the bushes from the steps to the delivery entrance along Bradford Road.

Unfortunately this will not stay like this for long! Litter thrown out of cars, the litter that blows across from the BP garage ( plastic gloves and general litter) plus the fly tipping! We have regular clean up dates booked in and working with Tesco staff hope to keep this area relatively clean.

In Edinburgh businesses and home owners are given the responsibility of keeping the front of house/business w**d free and litter free, the local authority oversee this and will fine those that do not comply as it keeps the city old and new looking it’s very best ….. how good would it be to adopt this to the town centre in Batley!
No more w**ds growing through railings, the moss and w**ds cleared from the entrance to Tesco and the bus station road off branch road.
It’s time to bring back some civic pride to the town!

Finally …. We have started clearing the moss and w**ds at the top end of Bradford Road and Branch Road, can we appeal to the following

Eclipse Dental Care
Uk Wrestling (Ukw)
BP Garage Batley

Outside all your premises there is a huge amount of w**ds, daily litter and cigarette ends, whilst this is not really our job, the council simply do not provide cleaning anymore for public areas and footpaths, if everyone can clear outside their buildings it will make a huge difference!

As a volunteer group we need all the help we can get and this would help! The flower tubs at the top of Branch Road also need water if someone could please water for us that would be amazing!

Taking steps like this can make a huge difference. Shake Bee has put some lovely picnic tables outside their premises, the effort is lost if you leave all the litter surrounding them on the corner!

Please find below an update for the litter picks coming up and right to the end of the year!

We will have two litter picks per month, the first will concentrate on area in and around the town centre, library and high street towards the Health centre, including the car park areas in front of the Irish Nash and shops on the other side of the road.

The second in the month will be the landscaping areas on Bradford Road for Tescos and on route to that area. Tescos are providing staff to help us litter pick and collect all the fly tipping items! It has been a positive discussion and result for both parties and from July things should start to look cleaner

We are going to chat to the BP garage, Aldi and Asda but from the next litter picks we will not collect any litter from around the Plaza.
We are stopping in this area because they are not enforcing the businesses use bins for rubbish outside their premises when open, they do not clean anything up and should the litter become an even bigger problem then it will be reported to waste services/Litter at Kirklees council.

It’s a tough job keeping everywhere tidy, but let’s be proud of our town and love where we live!

A Big Shout out to all the unsung heroes who collect litter on their own throughout the area - thank you - you make a difference 💚

And to Mr T’s and the Soothill peoples who regular collections in the car Park area in-front of the Mill Outlet, and lastly The FOB’s team who take care of the station and the roads surrounding!

Hello lovely community!
Updates on the Tesco landscaping ‼️‼️‼️‼️

We had a meeting with Tesco on Monday regarding the litter and a good agreement was made! They agree the litter is not good and over recent weeks have targeted certain areas to improve what gets picked up! I have to say I did a walk round before the meeting and it was looking much better! There was also a member of staff with a very tall crate on wheels full of litter bags in it so they are true to their word on collecting what they can.

Collaborating together is our best foot forward and as a litter picking group we have agreed that every 3rd Sunday in every month we will actively do a litter pick along the landscaping on Bradford Road. This will help Tescos to keep it relatively litter free and we will also have someone from Tesco joining us to help pick the litter. I will confirm the dates to them and off we go! We will start this litter pick from next month July, the first date will be the 19th July. We cannot do this month as it is Father’s Day on the third Sunday and we know people need the day for family events!

Tescos face two problems with the Bradford Road landscaping, the litter does get blown over into it from rubbish that has been dropped out of cars and on the road, secondly there seems to be fly tipping behind the bushes close to the entrance for the deliveries. We have cleared it out twice but checking on Monday more has been left there.

We now have amazing collaborations and good litter practice with not only Tescos but Mr T’s at Hick Lane and The Mill Outlet, it’s so encouraging that all these businesses do care about the community litter problem and are active in collecting.

Finally we really need volunteers for all the litter picking sessions please, the first Sunday in every month for around the town and the third Sunday for the landscaping at Tescos.
If you can spare an hour or maybe two it really does make a difference to the community!

We just want you to know that we do have responsible businesses that care about the community and action clean ups and support!

I am waiting for some images from Khan the manager of Mr T’s that show how he and his team continually clear the car park at the side of their building and heading towards the Mill Outlet! Infact both MrT’s and The Mill Oulet have been tackling the litter problem for some time and this also includes continuous fly tipping! The problem with this car park area is that it becomes busy very late at night with people throwing out drink cups, food wrappers and the obvious gas cannisters!

We love collaborating with other groups, Fatima from Grassroots and the very lovely Soothill Girl Scouts- thank you All 💚 also Councillor Akhtar Kasia who is showing what he’s all about by being present! Thank you 💚

The litter pick was really good this morning and we had a great conversation with Khan, it’s cleaned up well and one of our volunteers came all the way from Huddersfield! Mr Hodgkinson thank you so much! We would really like some more volunteers from our community please! Please join us for a couple of hours on the litter picks to get Batley looking the best it can be! 💚
