This Sunday we will be holding our annual New Starts Sunday when we will be praying for all those facing a new start, whether starting school for the first time, going to university, starting a new job, or moving into a new home.

We will also be praying for our whole church family for the main way in which we each spend our time, whether at school, work, caring for family, volunteering, or at home. You might like to bring something that represents this, such as a school bag, briefcase, uniform, secateurs, or even washing up gloves!

All our welcome - join us in the building or on our YouTube channel from 10am.

A call out to all first time mums!

Hello my name is Tonya Butler and I am the Children and Families Worker at Christ Church in Chineham.

Twinklers is a group run on a Wednesday morning from 10am-11.45am for a handful of first time mums with newborn babies coming along for a term (until they are approximately 6 months of age).

Attending a large group can be daunting with a newborn so we provide somewhere you can come along and receive support, care and understanding plus meet other parents, have a cup of tea/coffee with a safe place for babies to lie/sit and play whilst you chat and make friends with other mums who have babies at a similar age.

The next group starts at the beginning of September 2026.

Jonathan invites you to a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing on August 23rd (3pm) or 27th (7:45pm).

This film features footage from last November's National Emergency Briefing in Westminster, bringing together leading UK experts in climate science, food security, health, economics, national security and nature. It presents a calm, hopeful and evidence-based overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain - and what the science says about risks and responses. The initiative is explicitly non-partisan and supported by a wide range of organisations, including the Church of England, National Trust, WWF, the Royal Meteorological Society and many others. Following the 50-minute film, we will host a structured discussion about what this means for our community. There are 2 screenings in the coming weeks:

- Sunday 23rd August 3 - 4:30pm
- Thursday 27th August 7:45 - 9:15pm

We have a selection of pre-loved school uniform available to anyone who can make use of it, including skirts, pinafores, shorts, trousers, PE items, coats, and some branded sweatshirts and cardigans for Old Basing Infants and Four Lanes. We will be open from 10am until noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week for anyone who would like to come and see if we have anything they need for the new school year.

Residents who want to recycle more can now take their plastic pots, tubs, trays, tubes and cartons to the six council-owned recycling sites across the borough, with more sites being explored.

The temporary mixed plastics banks have been introduced at:

✅ Brighton Hill Parade, Brighton Hill Centre
✅ Castons Car Park, Basingstoke town centre
✅ Overton Hill Car Park, Overton
✅ Popley Fields Community Centre, Carpenters Down
✅ The Fieldgate Centre, Kingsclere
✅ Winklebury Centre, Winklebury

The banks will provide more opportunities for you to recycle while Hampshire County Council develops a new recycling sorting facility. Once operational, the facility will allow even more items, including plastic pots, tubs, trays, tubes and cartons, to be recycled at the kerbside from 2028.

Our Rooted Squad Holiday Bible Club is now over for another year, and it’s been another great 3 days with over 30 primary age children. We explored the Fruit of the Spirit in song, scripture, games, crafts and prayer. Near the end we had a “Shine Challenge” where the children were asked to create something on the theme, and we had sung solos, drawings and prayers.
