Local ABSOLUTE Legend shoutout! 🥳

I’ve been absolutely blown away by the work of this local Basingstoker 🤯

With nearly 50 videos over an hour long, this litter-picking legend has put in a huge amount of time and effort to keeping our town clean 🚮

From everyone in the page, and especially us, THANK YOU!

Standards Raised 🚮💪

No particular plan today! I just had a spare bit of time, grabbed the litter picker and went for a wander around some local streets and shopfronts to fill another litter bag 😎 Managed to find another solo wheel nut, maybe it’s related to the one from the other week? 🤣

It wasn’t a huge litter pick, but that’s the point. It doesn’t need to be hours long or a big organised effort to make a big difference; A few bits here, a few bits there, it all adds up 💚

Small actions. Big difference. Let’s keep Raising the Standards🫡

LOCAL LEGEND SHOUTOUT! 💪

An anonymous follower of the page has been doing their bit to Raise the Standards 😎They’ve been busy collecting this big bag of rubbish and returning 4 “littered” trollies back to Morrisons in Kings Furlong.

All of our small collective efforts are quickly adding up to a cleaner, happier Basingstoke. A massive thank you to this Local Legend!

COMMUNITY STANDARDS RAISED 😎🫵

With huge thanks to a brilliant volunteer, we were able to completely sweep this entire area in under 40 minutes! Many hands definitely make light work 💪

The local residents were absolutely delighted to see the park cleaned, and were even kind enough to bring us some cold drinks to keep us going☺️ I’ve never seen someone leave an entire Chinese meal in the road, or a nitrous canister nearly this big!

A massive thank you to everyone who gets involved, whether you're out there picking, donating your time or simply sharing what we do. If you see somewhere that needs a bit of TLC, let us know!💚

STANDARDS RAISED 🫡👌

I had a spare few hours today so I litter picked the Viables Roundabout up the Harrow Way toward Aldi.

These areas face huge amounts of foot traffic from school kids and people walking back from Aldi, as well as vehicle traffic from the nearby industrial estates. As a result, you can find quite a variety of odds and ends littered about 😅

People must be losing their spare buttons as I find an awful lot of these mini baggies around 🤔🤣

We’ve had a few comments on our posts from people telling us about anonymous litter pickers and community members quietly doing their bit around Basingstoke. No names, no recognition, no expectation of a shoutout, just Basingstoker’s getting on with it because they care 💪

So this one is for all of you! The people who pick up a few bits on their morning walk, clear up their street, tidy a green space or simply leave somewhere a little better than they found it.

You might not want the recognition, but you absolutely deserve it! To every anonymous Local Legend out there: thank you. 🫡

PHASE THREE: COMPLETE 🫡🚮

And that brings our biggest weekend ever to a close! Today I tackled the Lidl car park, although unfortunately I didn’t have as much time as I’d hoped, so the adjoining roundabout will have to wait for another day 😮‍💨

A nice bonus today was bumping into a fellow Raise the Standards supporter while I was out picking. It was genuinely brilliant to hear from someone who follows the page and supports what we’re trying to do 💪

Three days, three locations, almost 500L of rubbish removed and plenty more still to tackle! 😂

If you’ve been inspired by the weekend, don’t wait for the next organised litter pick. Grab a bag on your next walk and pick up a few bits. Five minutes from ten people can make a bigger difference than one person doing it for an hour.

Perhaps the MOST littered area in Basingstoke? 🤔

As part of our biggest weekend ever, I attended the B&M car park today. Safe to say, I’ve never seen so much litter in such a small space! A single bush managed to completely fill one of my large litter bags, there must have been at least 50 bottles and glasses left in there.

I managed to use every single bag I brought with me today, and despite that, there’s still SO much left to collect. So unfortunately, this one is going to need a return visit! 🫡

Tomorrow: Phase Three. Let’s see what Lidl has in store for us 👀🚮

Phase one: Complete 🫡🫵

I was expecting the Maccies Carpark to be a nightmare of receipts and litter but was pleasantly surprised to find it quite clean! 👏

Not wanting to waste the day, I then cleared the Aldi Carpark and bus route up to Brighton Hill Asda. As well as the mounds of typical litter picked up, I also found:

-A solo locking wheel nut (someone’s probably wondering where that went)
-A concerning amount of used sanitary products; I’ll spare you the details
-A near mint condition taillight lens of what looks to be a Hyundai ix35 in its natural habitat, a bush

Phase one is done. Phase two awaits tomorrow. 🫡
