Today, we remember with gratitude and respect the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the Allied servicemen who took part in the D-Day landings.
Many of us in Wales have witnessed the realities of military service, but nothing can truly compare to the immense courage shown by those who stormed the beaches of Normandy on 6 June 1944. Facing overwhelming danger, they fought to liberate Europe from tyranny and secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
Thousands of brave soldiers, sailors, and airmen never returned home. They paid the ultimate sacrifice so that future generations could live in peace and freedom.
We honour their memory, give thanks for their service, and remember all those who served with distinction on that historic day.
Their courage will never be forgotten. Their sacrifice will never be in vain. We shall remember them.
