SAS Football CLUB

SAS Football CLUB SAS football club is a well established local youth football club, catering for boys and girls of all ages

It all started with my two eldest going with their dad to play football in the local park in Sticklepath after tea on a Saturday evening.Gradually word spread and more of their friends turned up along with their own fathers. We soon realised that there was demand for a more organised activity. Hence the Club was born on the 18th May 1996 with a dozen young boys attending our first training session

at Sticklepath Primary School. The Club was originally called Saturday Afternoon Soccer as that was when we trained. As our numbers grew we turned to Pilton Community College to train and abbreviated our name to SAS as we were now training most week nights. In 1999 we entered an Under 14 team into the local youth league with amazing success. The boys went onto win the league and cup double for the three years they played. One of those boys is now a trainer at the Club with the one of the original trainers coming back to help out also. Over the years we have continued to have success in both the league and Plate/Cup competitions. Last year our current U15s won the Plate and Fair Play award and our current U13s also won the Fair Play award for their age group- a testament to the Club's ethos.

πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½οΈ GREAT SESSION THIS MORNING! βš½οΈπŸ’šπŸ’›

What a brilliant session this morning! πŸ™Œ

We started with a training drill that, if I’m being honest, both me and Maurice were a little sceptical about how it was going to go πŸ˜‚β€¦ but WOW, you absolutely nailed it!

The aim was to learn how to pull away from the defender marking you, move into space, receive the pass, make your own pass and then follow that pass.

It was brilliant to watch everyone getting the hang of it and putting it into practice. πŸ‘

Then we went into a match with a twist.

For the first 5 minutes, nobody was allowed to talk!

The idea was to show just how important communication is during a game.

It was VERY peaceful πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but once again, you absolutely smashed it!

Players were using hand signals, pointing and showing exactly where they wanted the ball played. πŸ‘Œ

Then we had another 5-minute game, but this time you could only receive the ball if you called for it!

This was brilliant to hear, especially from some players who are normally very quiet. πŸ“£πŸ‘

There were plenty of players shouting for the ball and communicating with their teammates.

Finally, we finished with a normal 15-minute game and put everything we had learnt this morning into practice.

Both me and Maurice were really impressed! πŸ™Œ

Players were moving into space, calling for the ball, communicating and producing some fantastic link-up play.

It was great to see everything from the drills coming through into the game ⚽️πŸ”₯

A special mention to Albert this morning too β€” some absolutely fantastic saves!

Really, really brave goalkeeping. πŸ§€πŸ‘

Keep up all the hard work everyone.

The improvements we are seeing each week is brilliant, so keep listening, keep learning and most importantly keep enjoying your football! πŸ’ͺ⚽️

See you all Wednesday evening πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½

Message from our Ability Counts Coach Ian.

Thank you to those players and parents for braving the rain showers this morning.

A smaller group today due to the holidays etc, but a great effort from everyone.

We were concentrating on shooting techniques today, and body positioning.

Some excellent finishes.

No match today, but we had a penalty shootout to finish with.

Congratulations to Tyler on being the penalty king today.

Thank you to Wayne for his help this morning.

Good luck to those people who are going back to college and school for the new academic year. I hope it goes well for you.

See you next Saturday πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½

Message from our Under 9 manager Stuart.

A really good training session as we prepare for the upcoming season.

Tonight we went straight into a training match and went through a few topics to try and work on.

⚽️ Taking a touch when a player has time on the ball.

⚽️ Trying to use the wings more rather than straight down middle.

⚽️ Getting the players heads up to be able to find their teammates.

All players tonight worked really hard and it was a really enjoyable session, with some amazing passages of play.

To our trophy winners

πŸ† David .... in a short space of time since joining this team, its clear to see that you are becoming a lot more comfortable on the ball.

Tonight you were involved in a lot of your teams play and thats down to your desire to receive the ball.

πŸ† Freddie .... very impressed with how your getting your head up to find your teammates, and finding them with a pass.

Also using your body to keep hold of the ball was great tonight, and to top it off with your little spell in goal where you made some worldy saves.

Special thank you to Dylan for bringing cake for all his team mates to celebrate his birthday last sunday πŸŽ‚

Thank you for all your support as always πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½οΈ

Message from our Under 15 Coach Tony.

Apologies for the cancellation of tonight's friendly against Barnstaple Youth, at short notice, which in fairness was taken out of my hands by the severe traffic congestion close to my home near cedars in Barnstaple.

Having left early in anticipation of some traffic congestion, it got to the stage of having to cancel the game as the car I was travelling in did not move for 50 minutes.

I took the decision to cancel the game in good time in support of the children's welfare, should they have arrived with no coaching staff to support and guide them.

We will try and rearrange the game ASAP in order to give both sets of players some playing time before the season starts and once we all have a better understanding of the roadworks and severe traffic congestion πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½

WHAT A MORNING AT SAS πŸ’šπŸ’›βš½οΈ

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came along this morning and made our round robin such a brilliant morning πŸ™Œ

And a huge thank you to Sarah at Time to Talk Hub for sponsoring the round robin and supporting our club! πŸ’› πŸ’š

It really is appreciated.

Today was all about FOOTBALL, FUN AND SMILES 😁⚽️

No worrying about the score, no league points, no pressure, just get out there, kick a ball around and enjoy yourselves.

And that’s exactly what we got today πŸ‘

Some cracking football, brilliant goals, fantastic saves, plenty of tackles, loads of running and probably a few tired legs by the end πŸ˜‚πŸ’¨βš½οΈ

Most importantly, everyone was smiling, encouraging each other and having an absolute blast.

That’s what our club, the SAS is all about.

Making memories, enjoying football and having fun with your mates! πŸ₯³βš½οΈ

A massive well done to every player β€” you were all fantastic! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

And of course, a big thank you to all the parents for your amazing support from the sidelines πŸ“£

What a morning, plenty of effort, plenty of laughs and some great football.

What a brilliant SAS family πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½

A big thank you to South Molton, Combe Martin and Bideford Blues for joining us today.

Message from our Under 9 coach Stuart.

Nice little training session tonight ⚽️

We wanted to focus on the kids being able to look up and pass the ball, from defence, through to attack.

This is something, that we feel is quite important for the players to work on, and its definitely an area we will be working on again.

We saw some of this carried over into the match tonight and we were very happy with how well they were moving and working together as a team.

We continue encouraging players to talk to each other and call for the ball when they are in a nice open space, reducing multiple players chasing the same player in possession of the ball.

Great effort from everyone tonight.

Trophy winners from tonight.

πŸ† Oscar - We are really noticing how much effort you are putting in to all aspects of football.

You really work hard on the training drills and in tonight's match, you was unstoppable.

πŸ† Val - Tonight you gave it 100%,making sure that you were clearing the danger, you were chasing down the attackers and we couldn't of asked for more.

Your enthusiasm and concentration during training is fantastic.

Thank you to all the parents as always.

We look forward to seeing everyone next week πŸ’›πŸ’šβš½
