SAS Football CLUB

SAS Football CLUB SAS football club is a well established local youth football club, catering for boys and girls of all ages

It all started with my two eldest going with their dad to play football in the local park in Sticklepath after tea on a Saturday evening.Gradually word spread and more of their friends turned up along with their own fathers. We soon realised that there was demand for a more organised activity. Hence the Club was born on the 18th May 1996 with a dozen young boys attending our first training session

at Sticklepath Primary School. The Club was originally called Saturday Afternoon Soccer as that was when we trained. As our numbers grew we turned to Pilton Community College to train and abbreviated our name to SAS as we were now training most week nights. In 1999 we entered an Under 14 team into the local youth league with amazing success. The boys went onto win the league and cup double for the three years they played. One of those boys is now a trainer at the Club with the one of the original trainers coming back to help out also. Over the years we have continued to have success in both the league and Plate/Cup competitions. Last year our current U15s won the Plate and Fair Play award and our current U13s also won the Fair Play award for their age group- a testament to the Club's ethos.

Message from our Under 9 Coaches Stuart and Josh.

⚽️ Sandymere tournament ⚽️

We want to start by saying a massive well done to every single player that took part in today's tournament.

You all worked your absolute socks off in tough and windy conditions.

Today we took two squads, SAS and SAS United

⚽️ SAS United, you should all be proud of yourselves, battling to the end.

You got yourselves to the plate semi finals, working so hard and never gave up.

Big well done!

⚽️ SAS, every single one of you played a part bringing this team to the FINAL of the plate competition.

You all fully deserved to be there and should leave with your heads held high.

I hope you all celebrate because this is another massive achievement.

You may think that losing in a final isn't a nice feeling, but really you should be celebrating because we got there, and thats down to all of you.

So, a massive congratulations from both of us.

Managers tournament trophy awards -

🏆 Stevie, you were an absolute machine today, never giving up and always running and tackling, right up till the end.

🏆 Harrison, your constant running in an attacking position was amazing, your desire to win the ball back for your team, shows just how well you are developing as a player.

A big well done to both goalkeepers today, Dylan and Oliver, some of those saves made today were just world class.

Massive thank you to all of the parents support today, the support and encouragement that you give, makes it all worthwhile and a pleasure to be a part of this journey.

Once again from both of us, we thank all the players today.

The teams that we played against today, have been together for a long time and look how far we have come in less than a year.

Thats down to the hard work and determination of all of our players.

Thank you and we hope you enjoy the rest of your week 💛💚⚽

Message from our Ability Counts Coach Ian.

Well the weather was pretty rubbish this morning, but the attitude and enthusiasm from the players was brilliant.

Our modules this morning were to help with co-ordination, balance and communication and then a match to finish off with.

Captain for the reds was Tyler, and Alexia for the yellow team.

Despite the conditions, some great performances by everyone.

It was a win for the yellow team today.

Our Player of the Week was awarded to Albie for his teamwork in the modules, and also his positional play and passing in the match and a big well done to him.

So nice to see Alexia back training with us again today.

Many thanks to Gina and Wayne for their help today, and also thanks to the parents for sitting in the pouring rain while we all ran around 💛💚⚽

A huge well done to our U8s this morning, especially in the lovely British weather! 🌧️

Today’s session focused on dribbling and keeping the ball under control, as well as improving our passing technique.

We then finished with some shooting practice, and the players were fantastic throughout.

🏆 Players of the Day 🏆

⭐ Harry – Brilliant in every single drill today and worked hard from start to finish.

⭐ Levin – Excellent effort today, listened carefully to everything he was asked to do, and showed great improvement throughout the session.

We’re still looking for more Under 8's (current Year 3 pupils) to join our growing team.

If your child would like to play football in a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment, we’d love to welcome them along.

They’ll make new friends, develop their skills, and be coached by a fantastic team of coaches. 💛💚⚽

Message from our Under 9 Coach Stuart.

Another really good/fun training session.

Theme for today's training was world cup ⚽️

Tonight we worked on sprinting to get to the ball first and keeping possession for as long as possible.

Followed by a training match with a penalty shootout to end the night.

Big congratulations to our trophy winners

🏆 Ellie ..... your work rate through the whole of tonight's training was absolutely fantastic.

A really strong performances in the training drill and the match.

🏆 Ella ..... also a really strong performance tonight.

Holding the ball really well in the training drill, and working really hard for your team in the match.

Well done to our chosen captains for our tournament tomorrow.

💪 Max .... a strong performance in defence.

Also some darting runs with the ball from the back.

💪 Cody... Your all round calm and collective performances in defence.

Being able to find that pass from the back and getting them vital tackles in

We hope you both can take that into the tournament tomorrow 💪

Thank you all for your help and support as always 💚💛⚽

Message from our Under 10 Coaches, Francis and Tony.

Fantastic midweek training session this evening!

With the Bideford Blues Tournament taking place this Sunday, we went straight into a training match tonight, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

It was a great contest between two evenly matched teams, ending in a well-deserved 1-1 draw.

There was some excellent football on display, including some brilliant switches of play that we’ve been working hard on in training.

It was fantastic to see both strong team performances and some outstanding individual displays throughout the game.

Well done to everyone involved.

See you all on Saturday morning for training as we make our final preparations for Sunday’s tournament 💛💚⚽️

A massive well done to everyone this morning 💛💚⚽️

What a fantastic morning of football.

Both the Yellows and Oranges were absolutely brilliant, and as Tony said, winning 3 out of 4 games is a great achievement.

What’s most pleasing is seeing how much this group is developing week by week.

We are really starting to click as a team now, with everyone understanding each other more and more, and the improvements are there for all to see.

There was some outstanding football on display today, with some brilliant team goals showing our quality and teamwork, alongside a few absolute screamers that had everyone cheering 🚀⚽️

Most importantly, the effort, attitude and togetherness from every player was first class from start to finish.

The hard work on the training pitch is paying off, and it’s great to see the confidence growing every week.

Keep working hard, keep enjoying it, and keep playing for each other.

Proud of every single one of you today. 👏

See you all on Wednesday evening for more hard work and more fun at training. 💛💚⚽️

Message from our Ability Counts Coach Ian.

Big thanks to all our players and parents for making it another great session today.

Due to the hot weather, just a few light modules today to work on speed, body positioning when shooting, and a highest kick competition.

So much improvement from people for actually getting their foot right underneath the ball. (Though I think some of the parents were slightly worried about trajectory!)

Then a brilliant match to finish off with.

Today the captains were for the reds Bailey, and for the yellows Hugh.

Such a competitive match, with good movement, talking, and tackling.

Final result 5-4 to the reds and close all the way through the match.

Well done everyone.

Our Player of the Week was awarded to Tyler today, with so much determination and drive in both the modules and the match.

Well done to him and also nice to have Hugh back training with us.

Big thanks to Gina and Wayne for their help again this morning.

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend, and I hope all the players have a good week back at school after the half term break 💛💚⚽
