Established since 1931
Barnstaple Fair Carnival has been held in the town since 1931 and this will be the 76th running of the event. Barnstaple Fair, operated by the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain, is the largest in the West Country and it is tradition for the Carnival to follow this event. The Fair proclamation, held at the Guildhall, on the Wednesday prior to the Carnival, this year 18th Septe

mber, is a prestigious event attended by the Mayor, Town Clerk, Chief Executive of North Devon council, the Chief of Police and many other dignitaries as well as representatives from local businesses and organisations. The Fair runs from 18th – 21st September inclusive, and the Carnival being held on Saturday 21st September 2024 usually attracts up to 20,000 people. The Carnival is organised by a small group of volunteers.
