Happy Monday!
With the changes that are going on, and the ideas that have been circling my head, I’ve been thinking a lot about why Move & Mend matters so much to me.
I've been a teacher now for nearly 10 years
in a range of different settings, but one thing has always been a constant when it comes to my students and that's the anxiety and overwhelm young people face when they're trying to hold everything in and get perceived as 'being naughty' when things are getting too much.
We get overwhelmed and act out as adults, so why do we expect children not to react in environments when things get too much?
Often, they are expected to sit still, be quiet, focus and regulate, without being shown proper tools to help them do so. And that's where Move & Mend came from. It's never been about a business idea, but rather a safe space for children (and adults) who need something different. To be able to move their bodies, understand their feelings and feel safe enough to just be themselves without the pressure of what they are 'expected' to be.
It's a space where regulation is something we teach, not expect.
And to see the progress in the children who are given that space is so fantastic. They connect with others and start to understand themselves in a completely different way in the safe space that's created for them.
And that’s why, even with the recent changes, I know this is something I’m continuing to build.
Because children don’t need perfect environments, but they do need safe ones.
Do you see this too in children around you?
If you’ve ever wondered whether Move & Mend would be right for your child, feel free to message me. I’m always happy to chat.
