Everyone has a part to play in ending domestic abuse - make sure your team doesn't look like this from the sidelines.
For many, football means passion, pride, and matchday energy. But for survivors, it can mean something very different. That's why we're talking about The Other Kick Off, the one that starts when he gets home.

Did you know that during major football tournaments like the World Cup, reports of domestic abuse often increase, That’s why it’s so important we all speak up on match days.

⚽️Everyone deserves to enjoy the game in a space that feels safe, respectful, and welcoming.
⚽️Respect matters before kick-off, during the match, and after the final whistle.
⚽️Safer match days are everyone’s responsibility. Let’s look out for each other.
⚽️Sexist comments, harassment, intimidation and abuse are not banter — and will never be part of the game.

Let’s stand together and create match days where everyone feels valued, safe and supported. 💬

With the World Cup approaching, there can often be a rise in alcohol and drug use, as well as domestic violence and anti-social behaviour.

Barnsley Recovery Steps is hosting a free webinar exploring the impact of the football season on alcohol use, polysubstance use, domestic violence and anti-social behaviour. It will look at how these issues can be linked and what can be done to reduce harm.

The webinar takes place on Thursday 4 June, 10am to 12pm, via Microsoft Teams.

Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

For those who have experienced abuse, the impact goes far beyond the physical.
Coercive control, emotional manipulation, and fear can deeply affect a person’s wellbeing, often leading to anxiety, depression, low self-worth, and trauma. Many survivors tell us that the psychological effects can last long after the abuse has ended.

At the same time, mental health struggles can make it harder for individuals to seek help or feel believed, leaving them feeling isolated and unheard.

At GROW, we see every day how closely linked domestic abuse and mental health are. That’s why we are committed to providing not just safety and support, but compassion, understanding, and a space where people can begin to heal.
You are not alone. Your experiences are valid. And support is available.
