Barnsley Naturalist and Scientific Society celebrates its 150 years of existence in 2017. We share a common interest in the natural world and in the wildlife of the Barnsley area in particular and have a programme of talks and field visits throughout the year.

Came across this on our walk at Rabbit Ings yesterday. While Seek and Google have suggested an ID of Woodland Sunflower, I am open to other suggestions. I am also asking if anyone has seen this anywhere else. Especially Yorkshire.

All change !..... for our events on the 19th and 20th August.Well our website says we should be going looking for glowwo...

All change !..... for our events on the 19th and 20th August.
Well our website says we should be going looking for glowworms on the 19th and moth identification on the 20th; these have now and unfortunately had to be changed. Due to there being few glowworms seen at our usual location for this walk it has been decided that we will now visit the Dearne Valley on the lookout for bats. The moth Identification will now take place on the later date of 26th of August.

Changing the subject ! here is a photo of a holly blue that was taken on our recent walk to Cannon Hall; one of the 8 species of butterfly we spotted on the day.
