This morning was a great start to the day with the Swaine Bloomers team.

We spent the morning tidying the entrance to the public footpath on Hamper Lane by trimming back overgrown vegetation, clearing silt from the pavement, removing litter, and starting a dead hedge using some of the village’s Christmas trees that had been saved for reuse. πŸŒ²β™»οΈ

It’s fantastic to see more and more people from the village turning up and getting involved in making a positive difference to the local environment. Every helping hand contributes to keeping our community cleaner, greener, and more welcoming for everyone. πŸ’š

A big thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time this morning. Together we’re making a real difference, one project at a time. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Interested in helping out? New volunteers are always welcome, and it’s a great way to meet people while improving the place we all call home. 😊🏑

Swaine Bloomers held their third successful plant sale at the weekend, raising an impressive Β£500 through plant sales πŸͺ΄ and kitchen β˜•οΈ refreshments. πŸ’· The funds will go towards supporting future community projects.

Greenotes attended to assist with plant sales, moving and handling, and demonstrated plant bio-rhythms by wiring up tomatoes and lavender, giving visitors a unique opportunity to experience the sounds and signals of plants. 🎢🌱

The event was further enhanced by a Swaine Crafts, Tilly’s Charity, dog treats, and a selection of gardening books, offering something for everyone to enjoy. πŸ“šπŸŽ—οΈπŸ¦΄

Thank you to everyone who came along to support the event at Hoylandswaine Village Hall A special well done goes to all the volunteers whose hard work and steady efforts helped keep the afternoon running smoothly. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

You may have noticed that the old Chestnut Tree bench area has had a well-deserved spruce up recently. 🌳

Greenotes, together with the Friends of Howbrook and Wortley identified the location as a well-used community space that was in need of a little TLC. The area around the tree benches has been weeded, washed, painted, and overhanging branches lifted to improve both its appearance and accessibility. We also trimmed the grass and exposed the kerb edges to give the whole area a cleaner, tidier look. πŸͺ

To add a cheerful summer feel, we decorated the space with bunting and daffodils to brighten the area for everyone to enjoy. 🌼

If you’d like to see more improvements like this in Howbrook and Wortley, why not join the Friends group? 🀝 The more volunteers we have, the cleaner, greener and tidier our community can be. πŸ‘ Ducks are welcome too πŸ¦† it’s been nice to have their company this afternoon.

Many hands make light work – and together we can make a real difference. πŸŒ±πŸ™Œ πŸ’š

Following a recent planning meeting with Crane Moor Community Group, met with members at Horse Fields to select a range of edible, flowering and drought-tolerant plants for the new village planters. 🌸🌱

Volunteers worked at three locations around the village, preparing the ground, securing the planters and filling them with peat-free compost and finishing them with a bark mulch dressing. Thanks to a fantastic turnout, the whole job was completed in no time! πŸͺπŸ”¨

The planters, kindly made and donated by Woodview Joinery Barnsley, now provide a warm and welcoming feature at the entrances to Crane Moor. They have been planted with Verbena, Red Army, strawberries, chives, thyme, rosemary, lavender and nasturtiums.πŸͺ»πŸŒΌ

We're looking forward to seeing them flourish, providing colour throughout the season and attracting plenty of pollinators to the village. πŸπŸŒΊπŸ¦‹

Please feel free to enjoy the edible plants too – whether that's picking a strawberry or snipping a little rosemary to season your roast dinner! πŸ“πŸ˜‹

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this project happen. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ’šπŸ‘πŸΌ
