Barnet Environment Centre

Barnet Environment Centre Nature reserve and environmental education Barnet Environment Centre is a 7.5 acre nature reserve which is used for environmental education.

There are woodlands, ponds, a meadow and a minibeast area. The site was originally a London Borough of Barnet Environment Centre and the Friends association was formed in 1992 to fight for the survival of the Centre in the face of severe financial cuts. Each academic year, hundreds of schoolchildren visit to learn about the various habitats. Open days such as the Spring Event and the Dawn Chorus a

re organised for the local community. An enthusiastic band of volunteers maintains the nature reserve and the classroom, facilitates visits by schools and community groups, and fundraises and liaises with other charities. Volunteer sessions are held on the first Sunday of every month 10am - 12.30pm and every Monday except bank holidays 1.30 - 4.00pm. Please get in touch at [email protected] if you would like to come along. The site now belongs to Noah's Ark Children's Hospice and planning permission has been granted for a hospice to replace the existing buildings. A new environment building will open in 2015 and the work of the Friends, in collaboration with the London Wildlife Trust, will continue.
