On 20 May 2026, UKON was proud to deliver a series of creative bandana workshops as part of this yearβs Carnival Arts Project with young people attending Thrive Sessions and Evolve Sessions at AB Phab Youth Club.
The workshops provided participants with the opportunity to design and create their own carnival-inspired bandanas while learning about the cultural significance of bandanas within carnival traditions, identity, and artistic expression. Through guided creative activities, young people explored themes of heritage, self expression, confidence, and community in an engaging and supportive environment.
The sessions were fully attended and created an exciting space for participants to develop creativity while also strengthening important personal and social skills. Alongside the arts activities, young people developed communication, teamwork, problem solving, and employability skills through collaborative working and peer engagement.
Dance and movement elements were also incorporated into the workshops, encouraging physical activity, coordination, confidence, and positive wellbeing outcomes. The sessions supported both creative development and healthy lifestyle engagement, demonstrating how arts and culture can contribute to wider social, educational, economic, and health benefits within local communities.
These workshops continue to highlight the important role that carnival arts play in creating accessible opportunities for young people to engage with culture, build confidence, develop transferable skills, and strengthen community connections.
UKON would like to thank the dedicated team at AB Phab Youth Club for their continued partnership, support, and commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for young people.
This project is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
