Cultural Life: The Adderbury Day of Dance

Each spring, the village of Adderbury comes alive with the sound of bells, sticks, and traditional folk music as the Village takes to the streets for their annual Day of Dance.

Captured here in a short video filmed outside the Coach & Horses on 25th April 2026, the Adderbury Village Morris Men continue a tradition that stretches back centuries.

What an absolute joy!

A huge thank you to Banbury Town Council for organising such a fantastic Taste of Spring event on Sunday — the food, drink, and live music made for a truly wonderful day out, and it was a brilliant celebration of everything our town has to offer!

There's also something truly magical about seeing the magnificent Hook Norton Shire Horses up close, and on Sunday they were simply stunning.

A big thank you also to Hook Norton Brewery for bringing these gentle giants along and adding a little extra magic to the day!

Celebrating Community & Culture: A Taste of Spring 2026

Hello to all our members and friends of the Banbury & District Twinning Association!

As we look forward to the changing seasons, we are delighted to highlight the first major cultural highlight of the year: A Taste of Spring 2026.

At the heart of the Twinning Association is a love for community spirit and the celebration of local culture—values that this wonderful festival captures perfectly. It is the first big event on the Banbury Town Council calendar, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to come together as a town.

When: Sunday, 12th April 2026
Where: Banbury Market Place
Time: 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

This is a free-to-attend celebration that really showcases the soul of Banbury .

Something to enjoy with a nice cup of tea.

Something to enjoy with a nice cup of tea.

It’s English Tourism Week, and we couldn’t let it pass without showing some love to our very own Banbury & District!

If you’re visiting, you have to try a local legend: the Banbury Cake.

Now, don't let the name fool you—they aren’t actually cakes at all! Imagine a perfectly oval, flaky puff pastry tucked around a warm, (sometimes boozy) center of spiced currants, candied peel, (and a hint of rum or brandy).

With those signature sugar-dusted tops and that crisp, golden finish, they are the ultimate teatime treat. Trust us, one is never enough!

Have you tried one yet? Let us know your favourite local spot to grab them!

Celebrating Over 40 Years of Friendship: Banbury and Hennef

Since 1981, Banbury has shared a proud twinning partnership with Hennef, Germany. This past February (14th February), that bond was further strengthened during a vibrant and memorable visit.

A Historic Milestone

The highlight of the weekend took place on Saturday, with the official signing of the new Banbury and Hennef Friendship Agreement.

This landmark document was signed by Mario Dahm, Mayor of Hennef, and Shaida Hussain, Leader of Banbury Town Council.

The ceremony was a true international gathering, witnessed by members of both the Banbury and Hennef Twinning Associations, alongside representatives from Hennef’s twin towns in France and Poland. Banbury was proudly represented by:

* Shaida Hussain (Chairperson/Leader of Banbury Town Council)
* Helen Mears (Member of Banbury Town Council)
* John Donaldson (Chairman of the Banbury & District Twinning Association)
* And supporting (Banbury & District Twinning Association) members

Culture, Costumes, and Carnival

The visit was packed with cultural exchange and celebration:

* Saturday Evening: Guests dove headfirst into local tradition at a spectacular costume party, joining hundreds of people for a night of high spirits and community.

* Sunday: A more relaxed day spent exploring the rich history of nearby Bonn with an insightful museum tour.

* Monday: The grand finale was the Hennef Carnival. Despite the rain, the energy was electric as groups from across the town and surrounding villages put on a truly spectacular parade.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our hosts and the Hennef Twinning Association for such a wonderful, extended weekend.

Thank you also to everyone from Banbury who traveled with us to make this event so successful.

It was truly a weekend to remember!
