Can you help BARD gather information?
In my previous post, I covered how the current LCC County Councillor is very unlikely to get any action on traffic calming from Lancashire County Council without a spike in accidents, injuries, and deaths.
But we all knew this, didn't we.
LCC do not have, or do not want to spend, the money it would take to address the issues of speeding in Brig unless they have the data to justify such a move.
In short, people need to die, or be injured, for something to be done.
So, until there are more accidents and the area moves up the LCC league table of danger, there is nothing the LCC County Councillor can do for the residents of Bamber Bridge, just as there was nothing the last one could do.
We at BARD do not think this is right, but BARD is effectively just one person.
For LCC to change its mind with out people dying, the people of Bamber Bridge need to work together to change its mind.
But I do not see this happening.
I held a two hour open surgery recently where anyone could come and report their concerns. One person turned up.
I have been asking people to meet with me and report their stories since February and I have had just 10 people come forward.
So are there only 11 people affected by dangerous driving and speeding in Bamber Bridge? If there are, I can see LCC's point - why spend a lot of money for 11 people?
But there arn't just 11 people, are there.
What I need are people willing to go door-to-door and speak to every resident down the affected roads and record their stories. There are so many stories of misery and danger out there, of lost pets and near misses, of smashed walls and wrecked cars, but I cannot get to them without help.
And without help, Bamber Bridge is saying OK to LCC. OK to the need to see people killed and injured before they will act. OK to the fact those statistics may well be you, your parents, your kids, your grand kids.
Unless I get some help, this effort to keep Briggers safe will also end in failure just as have all the petitions and news stories and LCC County Councillor promises.
Are the people of Brig going to step up and be counted, or wait until they are a statistic on an LCC spreadsheet building towards speed bumps being installed?
