We are delighted to announce that as of Friday 24 June, BucksVision will deliver the Buckinghamshire Integrated Sensory Service (BISS).

The current BISS team have transferred across, and we want to reassure you that it should be “business as usual”, with the same service continuing to be delivered at its current high standard.

We will be working in partnership with UK Bucks and Deaf Activities to help people even more effectively.

The BISS team will share our office in Meadowcroft, Aylesbury and can be contacted by telephone: 01296 479 970 and email: [email protected], or you can call our office number on 01296 487 556.

We believe that this is a really positive development and by delivering the BISS service alongside our current services, we hope to reach even more people with sight loss and make an even greater impact.

Today we highlight the vital role play across our services, helping to break down barriers faced by blind and partially sighted people; drivers provide safe transport; volunteer led social groups create a fun and supportive community; befrienders offer companionship by phone or in person; tech team show how technology can enrich lives; tandem, bowls and walking guides ensure people stay healthy and improve wellbeing, and our admin and social media team guarantee people stay up to date with our news and activities. Volunteers make a difference!

It is an exciting time for our charity; it's time to expand and broaden the skills and composition of our Board of Trustees.

We need passionate Trustees, who represent the diverse community we support, with an interest in our work who can bring their experience and skills, in particular Fundraising, Marketing, Human
Resources, and Digital Services/Inclusion, into our organisation to enable us to provide an accessible, effective and appropriate range of services to our members.

We invite all interested candidates to view our Trustee Recruitment Pack www.bucksvision.co.uk/trustee-recruitment
or if you would like to discuss the role in more detail please get in touch with Alison Deuchars, [email protected], 01296 487 556.

[Image description: Text reads "Could you be our next Trustee? There has never been a more exciting time to get involved with us.". Image of 4 people smiling, pointing at camera, wearing t-shirts which say "volunteer".]

Today is all about creating supportive communities by having conversations with family, friends, or colleagues about mental health. One in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year, by talking about it we can support ourselves and others. However, you do it, start the conversation!

Time to Talk Day 2022 is run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness in England, in partnership with Co-op. The campaign runs UK wide, with SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) and See Me in Scotland, Inspire and Change Your Mind in Northern Ireland and Time to Change Wales.

Buckinghamshire Mind, in partnership with Community Impact Bucks, has produced three training videos to support volunteers’ well-being, Setting boundaries as a volunteer, and Supporting someone else’s mental wellbeing as a volunteer.

Every Mind Matters has expert advice and practical tips around Coronavirus and wellbeing.

Buckinghamshire Mind is a great source of information and support.

Healthy Minds Bucks has lots of short videos and links that will
help you look after yourself

You can call the 24/7 Mental Health Helpline for Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire.

The 100-year-old volunteer with no plans to stop!

None of our volunteer roles have a maximum age restriction as we believe you are never too old to volunteer!

We have recently introduced Alumni Volunteer roles, for existing volunteers; we recognise and value older volunteers, and the variety of skills and abilities they have developed over the course of their volunteering that benefits both our members and our organisation.

Meet Beryl, the 100-year-old volunteer who is still making drinks at Ealing Hospital.
