We are pleased to see this collaborative approach between all parties involved with Ardrossan Harbour. Supportive actions for Clyde Marina between themsleves and CMAL is very welcome. We look forward to a brighter future for Ardrossan and it's Harbour.

Clyde Marina News Release:

Agreement secures long-term future for Clyde Marina at Ardrossan Harbour.
Leading Ardrossan tourism company Clyde Marina Ltd, one of Scotland’s largest marina and boatyard facilities, is proud to announce the signing of a Heads of Terms agreement with Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL). The agreement secures the future of the Ardrossan boatyard and facilitates the next phase of growth at Ardrossan Harbour.

Following CMAL’s recent acquisition of Ardrossan Harbour, the company has long-term plans to extensively redevelop the Arran ferry terminal and wider harbour infrastructure. As part of these plans, Clyde Marina and CMAL, in conjunction with the Peel Waters Group UK Ltd, have reached an agreement that provides certainty for the marina’s continued operation within the harbour.

The agreement will help strengthen Ardrossan Harbour’s role in Scotland’s vibrant marine tourism sector, while extending the economic benefits generated by the marina to the local community.

Clyde Marina’s managing director, Simon Limb, said: “We welcome CMAL’s very positive approach to working with the marina, to secure the growth and development of the harbour area as a whole, continuing Ardrossan’s maritime heritage for many years to come.
“We understand that the ferry facility’s redevelopment will be complex. Clyde Marina and its boatyards will continue to operate normally throughout this period, enhancing North Ayrshire’s tourism economy and supporting local businesses.”

Kevin Hobbs, chief executive of CMAL, said: “This agreement marks an important step in securing the long-term future of Clyde Marina within Ardrossan Harbour. It reflects our shared commitment to supporting sustainable growth and investment in the harbour, while recognising the valuable contribution the marina makes to the local economy and wider community.”

A new Notice to Mariners has been released by CMAL regarding Ardrossan Harbour. This relates to a diving inspection of the quayside and fendering of the Arran Berth on Jerry's Pier and of Winton Pier. See NTM 19/26 referenced below.

"Ardrossan Harbour Dive Inspection

Mariners are advised that a fender and wall inspection will be carried out by divers from the shore along both the Arran Berth and Winton Pier in Ardrossan Harbour starting on Monday 1st June. Works are expected to take 1 week.

The inspections will take from a man basket and a crane. Port staff and the dive contractor will monitor VHF channels 12 and 16.

A small safety boat will also be in operation to support the divers and the fender inspection.

The survey will be completed between sailings of the scheduled ferry services to avoid any disruption.

Mariners navigating in the vicinity of Arran and/or Winton Pier during this time are requested to do so with caution and regulate their speed to minimise the effects of wash.

Unless otherwise promulgated, if the NTM is still marked as ‘Active’ it is still in force.

Further details can be obtained using the contact details below.

We have had a positive meeting with the CMAL officials who are responsible for the reconstruction of Ardrossan Harbour.

These are the main points that came out of the discussion.
• The intention is to construct a harbour which will serve Arran well for 50-60years.
• The harbour will be built to accommodate vessels up to the size of the Glen Rosa and Glen Sannox.
• Assessments and surveys are continuing on the overall state of the harbour to establish the requirements of the new build.
• An updated development plan will be available this autumn; it will continue to be updated as the procurement of construction services progresses.
• Construction on the Arran berth is expected to commence in the latter part of 2027 and will last between 24 and 36 months.
• The initial investment is likely to focus on the Arran Berth which has always been the most heavily-used berth, given prevailing winds are South Westerly. The Irish Berth could be developed in future if there is justification and funding is made available.
• The plan is to close the harbour during the construction to save time and ensure safety.
• It was also accepted that the terminal building should be of reasonable proportions and allow quick and easy access to the ferry.
The terminal building will be designed to comply with all relevant accessibility legislation and will be consulted on with the Arran and Ardrossan communities as well as stakeholders with specialist accessibility interests.

CMAL have confirmed their intention to continue to consult with the various interested parties to ensure the best outcome.

New Pedestrian Railings at Ardrossan Harbour.

After several decades, the fencing in and around the public pedestrian areas of Ardrossan Harbour are being changed.

It has been a common sight at Ardrossan Harbour for many years where temporary fencing has been in place in a more permanent capacity. The waiting area for foot passengers and along the pedestrian walkway between terminal and marshalling area has been bordered with temporary fencing since the introduction of any fencing decades ago. CMAL as the new port owners are now finally changing this with the introduction of new permanent railings which will again add more tidiness and professionalism to the port's appearance.

We look forward to the completion of the installation and further visual and practical improvements in the near future. We will keep you updated with these changes.

More development updates from yesterday.

A fence is being constructed within the long stay car park which fences off the outer lighthouse section. There is a section of collapsing quayside in this fenced of area on what is called Berth 17. It first appeared around a year ago but it is deteriorating at an alarming rate. A small fence has been around the area since the start of the collapse but it is getting to a point where this is not enough.

We are not sure about the extent of this new fencing and if it will be permanently cutting off the lighthouse area from future car parking expansion or if it will be usable in future after quayside repairs. We will hope to receive information regarding all these developments from CMAL sometime after the end of the election period.

There is a gated section of the fence that can allow vehicles to pass beyond so it would still be possible to perhaps use the lighthouse area in summer months with better weather but cut it off in winter during bad weather where water makes it over the sea wall. Again, we will try to gain further clarification from the new port owners when we can.
