The Walnut Tree Public House, Appleshaw
· The Walnut Tree is for sale on the open market, which means it will become a free house when sold.

· The sale is subject to the terms of the Community Right to Bid scheme which gives a community group until Tuesday, 16th June to inform TVBC they intend to be treated as a bidder, i.e. no financial commitment will be required at this stage. A group would then have until 5th November 2026 to put a bid together and submit it.

· We proved the need for the pub in the community last year through the Community Asset process.

· We are aware there is interest in the pub and, for obvious reasons, finding a single buyer who has the community at heart would be the best solution. In case no bid is forthcoming, the purpose of the meeting is to see if a community group could come together to inform TVBC they intend to be treated as a bidder.

High groundwater/sewer blockage: there is a blockage somewhere on the village green outside the Walnut Tree which has caused the overspill in the road. It is being addressed.

Tankers: the way in which the tankers are currently operating is being addressed by Southern Water (SW). The company supplying them is new to the contract this year and is proving very different to MTS. We have made a formal complaint based on the long list of issues below and this has been taken up at a high level with the contractor. Other villages are experiencing much the same. SW are maintaining a close contact with us and are doing all they can to alleviate the situation.
The issues we know about are below: please let us know if anything else occurs. Orders were issued yesterday and again this morning that only 2 tankers should be parked in the Back Lane layby at a time and certainly none on the road.

Size of the tankers - most are far too long for the village roads

Too many parked in the Back Lane layby and on the road - this morning there were 5 again

The one-way route in and out of the village is in the SW admin instruction but is being ignored by some

Verges are being damaged by drivers turning in inappropriate places

The layby and field is being used as a loo

Mud is flowing down Back Lane and blocking the drain at the bottom of the hill

At the traffic lights, some tankers keep their main beam headlights on at night and blind drivers coming down the hill

At the layby, some tankers keep their headlights/main beams on at night while parked up, which intrudes into homes. They are on the wrong side of the road which can be confusing for drivers travelling up the hill

SOUTHERN WATER’S SEWER PIPE SEALING PROJECT
· The Lining Division team is sealing the private laterals in the villages at the moment.
· From 23rd March, they will start on the public pipeline which will involve rolling road closures and traffic lights.
· Note from the blue area on the plan that they will start at the Horns in Redenham and work their way down to the Playing Field triangle, where they should be finished by mid-July. We will update you on the other phases at the May meeting.
· Access to properties will be given at all times except when the work is covering an entrance, when there might be a delay of an hour or so to allow the compound to set.

Dear Parishioners,

Please see below and note that a paper copy of the survey will be delivered to all parishioners in the next few days with information for returns.

A342 Survey

A group of local Parish Councils has produced a Survey for parishioners to tell us how you are affected by the current amount of traffic on the village roads and the A342 now that over 2,000 homes, and the consequent extra vehicles associated with them, are planned at Ludgershall.

The Group has the support of Hampshire County and Test Valley Borough Councils.

We would be very grateful if you will complete and return the Survey by 7th April as indicated: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JTPPNXD . Note the link on the form is incorrect.

The Group’s Terms of Reference are:

To improve and enhance the A342 corridor within Hampshire for the safety and welfare of all road users, including pedestrians, thereby minimising any impact on those communities affected by the A342 and the surrounding road network, whilst providing an appropriate transit route for both local and through traffic. The network of surrounding roads and alternative routes is to be included, so as to improve safety, road use and Public Transport through the A342 corridor to the advantage of the local communities in the area. To work with stakeholders and public authorities, so as to bring the highest level of constructive representation possible.


The following parishes and communities are represented: Amport, Appleshaw, Charlton, East Cholderton, Fyfield, Kimpton, Monxton, Penton Grafton, Penton Mewsey, Redenham, Thruxton, Weyhill and Ludgershall Town Council.

Dear Parishioners,

You may have seen that tankers have been deployed at the pumping station from today. There is clearly a lot of groundwater in that bit of the village as it is erupting from the drain in the road. This is just to reassure you that the traffic management team is now on site at the bottom of White House Hill and is sorting out the traffic lights so that they are not hidden when tankers are waiting in the queue. Tankers will use a one-way system, entering the village via the Clanville road and exiting up White House hill. Let us know if you see any turning in other places, or if you have concerns.

It would be wise, if you can, to avoid the area for a couple of hours while they are getting themselves together.

We would like to make residents aware that tankers are likely to be deployed at the pumping station in the near future. This will involve the use of temporary traffic lights on the same stretch of road as last year. Should you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate.
