Did you know we have numerous team members trained to an advanced level as Remote Rescue Medical Technicians (RRMT’s) which was formerly known as Casualty Care within the team.

RRMTs from any team can work seamlessly together in any situation from an RTC or climbing accident through to a vast array of medical conditions.

Our RRMTs are trained to a similar level to an Ambulance Technician but has some variations and added skills. RRMTs can provide resuscitation including bag valve masks and simple airways, complete an A-to-E assessment in medical and trauma scenarios, and provide some life-saving interventions (like chest seals and tourniquets). Mountain Rescue teams, along with the RNLI, hold drugs to treat casualties. RRMTs can deliver analgesia as well as other treatments including for nausea, respiratory depression, cardiac pain, seizures, hypoglycaemia, and asthma.

Alongside this all team members are trained in basic life support, catastrophic bleeding, hypothermia and casualty handling. All team members should be able to provide this irrespective of background.

- Water margin search, swift water and flood rescue
- Land search management advice
- Assistance with scene management and logistics

Our members regularly operate in challenging environments where steep, loose, and exposed ground can quickly increase risk for both casualties and rescuers.

As part of our competency framework, team members must possess and maintain the skills needed to move confidently and safely across varied terrain. This includes navigation, environmental awareness, rope work, personal belays, stretcher handling, and understanding the difference between steep ground or technical rope rescue environments, assisting with stretcher raises and lowers, and applying appropriate risk mitigation techniques in challenging terrain.

Training recently provided an opportunity to practise these essential skills on challenging a hillside covered in scree, reinforcing safe movement techniques, teamwork, communication, and risk management in realistic conditions.

Proudly serving ASSAR and Search and Rescue Dog Association South Wales, Griff is a volunteer air-scenting search dog trained to help locate vulnerable and missing people when every minute matters.

Unlike tracking dogs, Griff doesn’t need a scent article to begin his search. Working off-lead across vast areas of countryside, he uses the wind to detect and follow human scent, often covering miles of terrain in challenging conditions. When he locates a casualty, he alerts his handler and guides them to the find. It’s an incredible partnership built on trust, training, and teamwork. ❤

🎉 Congratulations to three of our Remote Rescue Medical Technicians! 🎉
Over the past two weekends, we’re thrilled to celebrate Chris, Jack & Oli re‑qualifying as RRMTs!

A huge thank you to Severn Area Rescue Association for co‑hosting the training, and to all the dedicated faculty who volunteered their time and expertise!

🏔️ What is an RRMT?
Formerly known as “Casualty Care,” our RRMTs are trained to a level comparable with Ambulance Technicians—plus specialist skills tailored to mountain and remote environments. They can:
Perform advanced resuscitation (bag‑valve masks, simple airways)
Conduct rapid A‑to‑E assessments in both medical and trauma scenarios
Deliver life‑saving interventions (chest seals, tourniquets)

Incident 19 10/5/26 We were contacted in the early hours by requesting support in the search for a vulnerable male in the Middlezoy area of Somerset.

Search teams deployed into the high probability areas along with police and then joined by the search and rescue helicopter.

A police dog handler found the missing male, our members were nearby and able to deliver pre-hospital care before being joined by a paramedic from the helicopter. The casualty was then airlifted to the nearby cricket pitch for handover to

The team was operational for 6 hours.

Incident Update.
18 5/6/26 We were initially contacted by to help in the search for a vulnerable elderly female around Stoke sub Hamdon in South Somerset. Given the location we requested this be passed to to run the job and request us if further resources were needed. Shortly afterwards the request came and we were able to send several members to support. The elderly female was found alive and treated at the scene before being handed to
