⚠️ UPGRADED ⚠️ 🚨 The UK Health Security Agency have upgraded their health alert 🚨

Red heat health alerts issued for East of England, East Midlands, London, South East, South West, and West Midlands.

Amber heat health alerts issued for the North East, North West, and Yorkshire and The Humber.

Severe impacts are expected across health and social care services due to the high temperatures, including:

• Increased risk to life across the whole population, with significant impacts on older people

• Significantly increased demand on all health and social care services

• The heat affecting the ability of the workforce to deliver services

• Hot indoor environments making provision of care challenging and national critical infrastructure failures, such as generators and power outages

• Water‑related incidents may increase, including risks from cold‑water shock and drowning

Alerts are in place from 1am on Wednesday 24 June until 11pm on Thursday 25 June

The Met Office has issued extreme heat warnings as temperatures are expected to rise significantly across parts of the UK, with the potential for record-breaking June temperatures.

Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, young children, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions are particularly at risk.

To stay safe:
☀️ Keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm)
💧 Drink plenty of water and avoid becoming dehydrated
🏠 Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains and blinds
👒 Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and a hat when outdoors
👵 Check on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends
🚑 Seek medical advice if you or someone else becomes unwell due to the heat
