🦅Species spotlight - Gannet (Morus bassanus)🌊
Did you know that gannets can hit speeds of up to 60 mph? When hunting for fish, they plunge into the sea from heights of up to 30 metres. To absorb the impact, gannets have an extensive network of air sacs beneath their skin and between their muscles, acting like natural bubble wrap! These striking seabirds are easy to spot, with their bright white plumage, golden-yellow heads, and black wingtips. Around 220,000 pairs of gannets nest around the UK's coasts—an incredible 55% of the world's breeding population. Despite their impressive numbers, they are currently listed as an Amber List species, highlighting the importance of protecting these remarkable birds and their breeding colonies.

🦅Sbotolau Rhywogaeth - Mulfran Wen (Morus bassanus)🌊
A oeddech yn gwybod bod mulfrain gwynion yn gallu cyrraedd cyflymderau hyd at 60 mya? Pryd maent yn hela am bysgod maent yn deifio i mewn i’r môr o uchderau hyd at 30 metr. I amsugno’r trawiad, mae gan fulfrain gwynion rhwydwaith estynedig o sachau aer o dan eu croen a rhwng eu cyhyrau, sydd yn gweithredu fel papur swigod! Mae’r adar môr adnabyddadwy yma yn hawdd i’w weld gyda’u plu gwyn disglair, pennau melyn-aur, a blaenau adenydd du. Mae oddeutu 220,000 pâr o fulfrain gwynion yn nythu o gwmpas arfordir y DU - swm o 55% o boblogaeth bridio’r byd. Er eu niferoedd aruthrol, maent wedi’u rhestru fel rhywogaeth ar y Rhestr Ambr, sydd yn amlygu pwysigrwydd amddiffyn yr adar nodedig yma a’u cytrefi bridio.

A big thank you to for a fantastic guided wildlife walk! 🐞 We were lucky to spot many amazing species, including curlew, lapwing, little egret and even an osprey! The litter pick was also a fantastic success, with everyone getting stuck in to clean up the local environment.
With Llyn Cefni being such a beautiful place, we thought we’d share some of our photos from the event. Swipe along to see what we got up to and just how pretty it is! 🌳
Join us for our next walk TOMORROW, at Station Yard car park at 18:30.

Diolch enfawr i am daith cerdded dan arweiniad anhygoel! 🐞 Roeddem digon ffodus gweld sawl rhywogaeth ardderchog, gan gynnwys, gylfinir, cornchwiglen, crëyr bach a hyd yn oed gwalch y pysgod! Roedd y gweithgaredd casglu ysbwriel yn llwyddiant mawr gyda phawb yn cymryd rhan i lanhau’r amgylchedd lleol.

🐬Species spotlight - Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)🌊
The bottlenose dolphin is a sociable and charismatic species that is one of the most well known marine mammals worldwide. However, did you know that there are two species of Bottlenose Dolphin? The common bottlenose and the Indo-Pacific bottlenose. Here in the UK we see the common species, and these are significantly larger than their tropical relatives. This is due to the colder waters around the UK - a larger body means they can conserve heat more efficiently and also means they are able to eat larger fish and squid that inhabit cold waters.

Have you seen bottlenose dolphins around the UK? Let us know in the comments!

🐬Sbotolau Rhywogaeth - Dolffin Trwyn Potel (Tursiops truncatus)🌊
Mae’r dolffin trwyn potel yn rhywogaeth gymdeithasol a charismatig sydd yn un o’r mamaliaid morol mwyaf cydnabyddedig led y byd. Er hynny, a oeddech yn gwybod bod yna dwy rywogaeth o Ddolffin Trwyn Potel? Y dolffin trwyn potel gyffredin a’r dolffin trwyn potel Indo-Tawel. Yma yn y DU rydym yn gweld y rhywogaeth gyffredin, maent yn sylweddol fwy na’u perthnasau trofannol. Mae hyn yn digwydd oherwydd y moroedd oerach o gwmpas y DU - mae maint corff mwy yn golygu maen yn gallu cadw gwres yn fwy effeithiol, a hefyd bwyta pysgod a môr-lewys mwy sydd yn byw yn foroedd oer.

Ydych chi wedi gweld dolffiniaid trwyn potel o gwmpas y DU? Gadewch i ni wybod yn y sylwadau!

🐬Species Spotlight - White-beaked dolphin (Lagenorhynchus albirostris)🌊
White-beaked dolphins have a distinctive white beak and white flash on their sides and backs. They are mainly found in the North Atlantic Ocean and have the range furthest North of all the Lagenorhynchus species. Around the UK they tend to be seen in pods of 5-10 individuals but in other places they have been seen in groups of hundreds and even thousands! They are highly active dolphins who are fast, powerful swimmers and are often seen bow riding, breaching and porpoising (jumping clear of the water).

🐬Sbotolau Rhywogaeth - Dolffin Pigwyn (Lagenorhynchus albirostris)🌊
Mae gan ddolffiniaid pigwyn, pig gwyn nodweddiadol a fflach wen ar eu hochrau a chefnau. Yn bennaf darganfyddir yng Ngogledd y Cefnfor Iwerydd ac mae ganddynt y dosbarthiad mwyaf gogleddol o’r holl rywogaethau Lagenorhynchus. O gwmpas y DU maent i’w weld mewn podiau o 5-10 unigolyn ond yn llefydd eraill maent wedi’u gweld mewn grwpiau o gannoedd a hyd yn oed miloedd! Maent yn ddolffiniaid bywiog iawn, nofwyr cyflym a phwerus ac yn aml gwelir yn nofio ger bwa cychod, llamu a llamhidyddio (neidio’n glir o’r dŵr).

There will be four walks as a part of this series, happening every other week on a Wednesday evening. Join us for our first this week!

📍First stop: Llyn Cefni!

We will be meeting on Wednesday 19th August at Bodfordd car park at 18:30 to begin the walk. Open to all! Get in touch if you have any questions.
