Is anyone looking for a singer sewing machine for free? Someone has asked if we would like one. We already have two spare so if anyone needs one to get started let me know.

Hi all. Great rope bowl/basket making session this month. Thanks so much Bernie for showing us how. Next month 14th April Lynn will be leading on us making sensory weighted blankets for the school. Please let me know (if you haven't already) if you plan to come along so that Lynn can order materials. 🌼

Hi everyone and happy new year!

A few changes this year:

We have no groups in August and December. This is because historically people are very busy on these months.

Everyone will be required to 'book on' each month to enable me to plan accordingly for materials and set up. We will trial a what's app group where I will ask you to indicate if you're planning to attend on a poll.

Please send me your phone number. If you'd prefer not to be part of the what's app group, please text me instead on 07511807586.

New memberships will be £25 for a year.

We will be trying to use and upcycle as much as possible this year using our communal stash.

We may be considering using the smaller room to keep overheads low. We have a limited budget and anything we can do to save costs will mean the longer we can keep the sewing group running.

As always, if you want a cuppa bring your mug.

Plans for this year's sewing group sessions are listed below.

Some useful notes on fabrics if you are considering bringing your own:

👙 Best Fabrics for Making Knickers

1. Cotton Jersey
- ✅ Soft, breathable, and gentle on skin
- ✅ Natural fibres—great for everyday wear
- ✅ Stretchy if it contains elastane (look for cotton jersey with 5–10% elastane)
- 🧺 Easy to wash and durable

2. Modal or Bamboo Jersey
- ✅ Silky-soft and breathable
- ✅ More moisture-wicking than cotton
- ✅ Eco-friendly options available
- ❗ Slightly more delicate—may pill over time

3. Stretch Lace or Mesh
- ✅ Adds a decorative, romantic touch
- ✅ Often used for panels or trims
- ❗ Needs lining or reinforcement for comfort and durability

4. Microfibre or Nylon Blends
- ✅ Smooth and sleek—great for seamless styles
- ✅ Often used in store-bought knickers
- ❗ Less breathable than natural fibres

5. Silk or Satin
- ✅ Luxurious feel, perfect for special occasion knickers
- ❗ Not stretchy—better for looser styles or bias-cut designs
- ❗ Requires delicate handling and sewing

🧵

If you’re working with scraps or upcycling old tees, cotton jersey is forgiving and beginner-friendly.
